More than 1.7 million Honda Accord and CR-V are under investigation because of brake failure. According to media reports, the US auto safety regulator launched an investigation into more than 1.7 million Honda vehicles because they suddenly started emergency braking without any warning under normal driving conditions, causing the vehicle to slow down instantly. The models investigated include the medium-sized sedan Accord (2018-2019) and the compact crossover CR-V (2017-2019), involving a total of about 1732000.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the NHTSA defect investigation Office (ODI) has received 278 complaints about the situation, including 107 from Accord owners and 171 from CR-V owners. Documents show that the emergency braking of the vehicle occurred without any hindrance, and in some cases the speed of the vehicle decreased significantly. However, at present, the accidental deceleration incident has not caused serious traffic accidents or accidents, and only six of these 278 complaints have caused minor injuries. The owner said the automatic emergency brake was activated without any warning.

NHTSA has launched an investigation into the vehicles involved on February 21. NHTSA will collect information from Honda, including data on complaints, injuries and warranty claims, and the NHTSA defect investigation Office is conducting a preliminary assessment. NHTSA said its goal is to "determine the scope and severity of potential problems and a comprehensive assessment of potential safety-related problems", the results of which will ultimately determine whether Honda should be recalled. In response to the above problems, NHTSA has not released any investigation results to the public. According to reports, Honda said that the complete Honda Sensing driving assistance function is currently standard or optional on all new Honda models, and there are nearly 5 million Honda models with this function on American roads. As the software continues to upgrade, there will be slight differences in this function between some annual models or different models. Honda spokesman Chris Martin said Honda is cooperating with the NHTSA investigation and will conduct an internal review based on available information.

It is understood that emergency braking means that when the car encounters an emergency in the course of driving, the driver uses the brake quickly and correctly to stop the car in the shortest distance. The automatic emergency braking system is the standard configuration of Honda's new models in the American market, which is very useful in preventing collisions. The above-mentioned models are only for the US market, and it is not clear whether the problem will affect Accord and CR-V models produced and sold in China. It is understood that in the past 2021, Honda's cumulative sales in China were 1.5615 million vehicles, down 4.0% from the same period last year. The Accord and CR-V models mentioned above have accumulated sales of more than 200000 vehicles in the domestic market, of which Accord, as an important model of Guangzhou Automobile Honda, has accumulated sales of 201301 vehicles, and CR-V, as the main sales force of Dongfeng Honda, has accumulated sales of 222325 vehicles. The latest sales figures for this year show that Honda sold 146600 Chinese terminals in January 2022, down 6.9% from a year earlier, including more than 20, 000 Accord terminals and more than 10, 000 CR-V terminals.
