In terms of power, Ford Mustang Mach-E provides rear drive and all-drive drive, in which the maximum power of the standard continued version is 198kw, the peak torque is 415N ·m, and the range is 470km; the maximum power of the long-lasting rear drive version is 210kW, the peak torque is 415N ·m, and the mileage is 600km. The maximum power of the long-lasting four-wheel-drive version reaches 260kW, the peak torque is 565N ·m, and the mileage is 540km. In terms of mileage, the new car uses BYD's 811 ternary lithium battery with a range of 470km-600km, and BYD is the only battery supplier to Ford Mustang Mach-E.
When BYD's supply of ternary lithium batteries is affected, it will certainly affect Ford's Mustang Mach-E production. It is understood that the 811 ternary lithium battery was put into production at the BYD Xi'an factory, but due to the impact of the epidemic from the end of last year to the beginning of this year, the battery raw materials could not flow normally, and the batteries from the Xi'an factory could not be transferred to the Changan Ford Chongqing plant. As a result, the production of electric horses has also been affected, unable to achieve timely delivery.
So should Ford Mustang Mach-E use BYD ternary battery instead of blade battery? In addition, why did Ford choose BYD over the better-known Ningde era? There may be three reasons for speculation, one of which is that Ford's Mustang Mach-E was developed earlier, while the BYD blade battery had not yet been released or loaded. The second is that regardless of whether it is ternary lithium or lithium iron phosphate batteries, the current Ningde era occupies most of the market share and is the battery supplier of a number of car companies. By contrast, the batteries produced by BYD are also open to the outside world. However, at present, it is still self-sufficient, and BYD has advantages in quotation, matching degree, capacity supply and so on. In addition, BYD, a new energy car company, is a potential competitor to Ford and strategically avoids deep binding. If Ford uses BYD's lithium iron phosphate battery, it will be difficult to switch in a short period of time.
However, from the current new energy vehicle market, the existence of lithium iron phosphate has exceeded the ternary lithium battery. Data show that China's power battery output accumulated 219.7GWh in 2021, of which lithium iron phosphate battery output accumulated 125.4GWh, accounting for 57.1% of the total output, and ternary battery output accumulated 93.9GWh, accounting for 42.7% of the total output. In January this year, China's power battery production totaled 29.7GWh, of which lithium iron phosphate battery output 18.8GWh, accounting for 63.3% of the total output, ternary battery production 10.8GWh, accounting for 36.5% of the total output. In contrast, lithium iron phosphate batteries are safer, have excellent service life with lower loss than ternary lithium batteries, and have price advantages, that is, safer, lower cost, and longer service life, which are the reasons why lithium iron phosphate batteries are gradually ahead of ternary lithium batteries, which is also the reason for the lower sales of Ford Mustang Mach-E with ternary lithium batteries. As to whether Ford will seek other battery suppliers to ensure stable production, Ford said that due to technical adjustments and other reasons, the situation of a single battery supplier cannot be changed in the short term.
In addition, due to capacity constraints, it is also the reason for Ford's low Mustang Mach-E sales. It is understood that Ford Mustang Mach-E was officially delivered in December last year, and it takes time for production capacity to climb, with a general delivery cycle of 2-3 months. However, as the epidemic alleviates and the supply chain stabilizes, the delivery cycle will be shortened to 6-7 weeks.
By the end of 2021, nearly 30 independent channels for Ford electric vehicles have been built nationwide, all of which have been invested by dealers of the current Changan Ford system, but for Ford, which has a strong dealer system in China, it can not be called fast.
