Another traditional carmaker has announced its foray into the field of electric cars. South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group announced a new strategic plan on March 2, including plans for future electric models, according to media reports. Hyundai will launch 17 new all-electric models in 2030, 11 of which are from Hyundai and six from its luxury brand Genisse. In addition, in terms of global pure electric vehicle sales, Hyundai plans to increase annual sales to 1.87 million units by 2030 and ensure a 7 per cent global market share.

It is understood that Hyundai plans to invest 95.5 trillion won (about US $79 billion) by 2030, which will be used for facilities construction, R & D activities and other strategic projects. of the entire 95 trillion won investment plan, 19.4 trillion won will be invested in electrification, and 12 trillion won will invest in software services, including self-driving. In the investment in facility construction, Hyundai Motor will focus on the field of electric vehicles, including increasing the number of factories producing electric vehicles worldwide. According to statistics, Hyundai Motor currently has complete vehicle factories in nine countries around the world, including South Korea, the United States, China, India, Russia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Indonesia. In the future, it will build factories to produce electric vehicles in the market with high demand for electric vehicles. In terms of research and development, Hyundai CEO Jaehoon Chang said that the development plan of Hyundai pure electric vehicles is to strengthen the production line of pure electric vehicles, optimize production capacity and ensure the competitiveness of hardware and software. At present, Hyundai has invested heavily in electrification and software development. In 2035, the European market of Hyundai will only have pure electric models, and in 2040, all electric models will be sold worldwide, and fuel vehicles will be completely suspended. For this year's short-term goal, Hyundai plans to add OTA features to its new models at the end of this year, and all its models will have OTA wireless upgrades by 2025.

In terms of model planning, Hyundai plans to promote electrification with its high-end brand Genisse. In 2030, the two sides will launch 17 new electric vehicles, of which 11 are from Hyundai, including three sedans, six SUV, a light commercial vehicle and a new vehicle; the other six models are from Genisse, including two passenger cars and four SUV models. In addition, all models of Genisys will be electrified from 2025.

As we all know, Hyundai occupies a leading position in the global market, but in recent years, the development of Hyundai in the Chinese market is not very bright. According to previous reports from the automotive industry, South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group entered the Chinese market in 2013 and successively established three vehicle manufacturing companies, Beijing Hyundai, Dongfeng Yueda Kia and Hyundai commercial vehicles. Before 2016, Beijing Hyundai occupied the domestic passenger car market because of its high performance-to-price ratio, and achieved good sales results, with annual sales of 1.03 million, 1.16 million, 1.06 million and 1.14 million respectively from 2016 to 2016. 2016 was Beijing Hyundai's best sales year in four years, but after this record, Beijing Hyundai sales began to decline, with sales of 755659 vehicles, 782163 vehicles, 685126 vehicles and 384782 vehicles respectively from 2017 to 2020, compared with the past 2021. Beijing Hyundai sold a total of 359851 vehicles.

At present, Beijing Hyundai has a variety of products, including Elantra, new Sonata, Tusheng L, ix35, Kusto and so on. According to the latest sales figures for this year, the Elantra sold 14657 vehicles in January, making it the highest-selling model for Hyundai and even Korean automakers in China, followed by the ix35 with 8626, Tusheng with 5076 and other models with mediocre performance.

With regard to the continuous decline in the annual sales of Hyundai cars in Beijing, people in the industry believe that Beijing Hyundai has not innovated in strategy and models according to changes in the market, and the process of localization is relatively slow, and it has introduced too many similar models at the same time, resulting in uneven distribution of marketing resources at the same time, unable to quickly respond to changes in the market.

Nowadays, electrification has become the general trend of the development of the global automobile industry. Hyundai Motor Group of South Korea has invested 19.4 trillion won (101.6 billion yuan / US $16 billion) in the transformation of electrification or to cope with changes in the market. Looking back over the past two years, South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group is far from the only car company that has spent a lot of money on electrification. Toyota, which has always been unenthusiastic about electric cars, has announced plans to invest 8 trillion yen ($69.43 billion) in electric vehicles by 2030. South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group's investment of 19.4 trillion won (101.6 billion yuan / $16 billion) in pure trams is not very "aggressive".
