On March 18, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued a recall notice, the latest announcement shows that Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, recalling the following vehicles from March 21, 2022.

The recall of a total of two models, respectively, Yize and C-HR, a total of 23502 vehicles recalled. Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 13999 Yize cars produced between April 30, 2020 and August 19, 2021, while Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 9503 C-HR vehicles produced between April 29, 2020 and July 30, 2021, according to the recall notice.

The reason for the recall is that part of the vehicles within the recall scope may not be able to identify the vehicle in front of them due to the unsuccessful adjustment of the optical axis of the millimeter wave radar sensor, resulting in some functions of the dynamic Radar Cruise Control system (DRCC), Lane tracking Assistant system (LTA) and pre-collision Safety system (PCS) not working properly, increasing the risk of collision accidents and causing safety risks. To this end, Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will check the millimeter wave radar sensor optical axis adjustment status for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, if the setting is not successful, then re-adjust the optical axis of the vehicle to eliminate safety risks.

Data show that millimeter wave usually refers to the 30~300GHz frequency domain (wavelength is 1~10mm). 24GHz radar sensor and 77Ghz radar sensor are mainly used for automobile anti-collision. The wavelength of millimeter wave is between centimeter wave and light wave, so millimeter wave has the advantages of both microwave guidance and photoelectric guidance. Compared with centimeter wave radar, millimeter wave radar has the characteristics of small size, easy integration and high spatial resolution. Compared with camera, infrared, laser and other optical sensors, millimeter wave radar has strong ability to penetrate fog, smoke and dust, strong anti-jamming ability, and has the characteristics of all-weather (except rainy days).

According to the concern of the automotive industry, FAW Yize models and Guangzhou Automobile C-HR models are located in a small SUV, of which Yize sells for 12.58-169800 yuan and C-HR for 12.38-172800 yuan. In terms of sales, in nearly a year, FAW Yize model cumulative sales of 39632 vehicles; Guangzhou Automobile C-HR model cumulative sales of 44529 vehicles. From January to February this year, FAW Yize sold 1957 vehicles and Guangzhou Auto C-HR sold 5170 vehicles.
