A month later, Mercedes-Benz released a recall plan again. On March 25, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued a recall notice for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The latest announcement showed that Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products, recalling the following vehicles from March 25,2022.
According to the recall announcement, a total of 60258 vehicles were recalled, including Class A, Class B, Class C, Class E, CLA, GLB, GLC, GLS and other models, covering almost all models such as Mercedes-Benz.
I. Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled some Class C vehicles with production dates from March 26,2021 to September 22,2021, totaling 4628 vehicles.
Reason for recall: Due to software development deviation of vehicles within the scope of this recall, engine control unit memory may not be able to write engine start-up data correctly, resulting in engine shutdown and failure to restart just started, increasing the risk of vehicle collision, resulting in potential safety hazard.
Solution: Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will upgrade the engine control unit software for vehicles in the recall range free of charge through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers to eliminate safety hazards.
II. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. recalls 38318 imported Class A, Class B, Class E, CLA, CLS, GLC SUV, GLB SUV, GLE SUV, GLS SUV and AMG GT vehicles with production dates from October 29,2018 to June 18,2021; Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled 17312 domestic Class A, Class E, GLA, GLB SUV, GLC SUV and EQC vehicles with production dates from August 15,2018 to October 13,2021.
Reason for recall: When the vehicle within the scope of this recall starts, the MBUX multimedia display screen may not start normally, resulting in the image of the rear view camera assisting the driver to reverse cannot be displayed on the display screen, resulting in potential safety hazard.
Solution: Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. and Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will upgrade the MBUX multimedia system (intelligent human-computer interaction system) software free of charge for vehicles within the scope of recall through OTA technology; For vehicles that cannot be recalled through OTA technology, relevant users will be contacted through Mercedes-Benz Authorized Service Center to upgrade the software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate potential safety hazards.
This is the second recall of Mercedes-Benz cars this year. On February 18, due to the possible insufficient sealing of the cooling system in some EQC electric drive modules, coolant leakage into the motor may cause the vehicle to fail to start. For this reason, Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled some EQC electric vehicles with production date from November 30,2018 to December 15,2021 from August 15,2022, totaling 10104 vehicles.
In the past 2021, according to previous statistics of automobile industry concern, Mercedes-Benz launched 17 recalls in China in 2021, involving a large number of models, with a total recall of 2781204 vehicles, which is higher than the global sales volume of Mercedes-Benz in 2021. Mercedes-Benz Group reported cumulative sales of 2.3302 million vehicles in 2021, down 5% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative sales volume of passenger cars was 2.055 million units, down 5% year-on-year.
