Late at night on March 28, a new energy vehicle caught fire under a residential building in Baishilong Village, Longhua District, Shenzhen. Judging from the pictures posted on the Internet, due to the rapid fire at the scene, the new energy vehicle involved was almost engulfed by the fire, and the flames and smoke were several meters high. Then firefighters rushed to the scene to control the fire, but the whole vehicle had been burned into an empty shell. Judging from the logo and body structure of the fire vehicle, the vehicle involved is Xiaopeng's G3 model. In this regard, Xiaopeng Automobile responded, confirming that the model involved is the 2019 G3, and will fully cooperate with the investigation into the cause of the accident. At present, the fire department has completed the disposal at the scene and no one has been injured.

According to incomplete statistics, the Xiaopeng G3 series has had at least three accidents involving vehicle fires since it was put on the market, but fortunately there were no casualties in the accidents.

In December 2019, a Xiaopeng G3 caught fire in an open lot. Black smoke and open fire appeared in the rear of the car. Then a man approached with a fire extinguisher to put out the open fire. Then, Xiaopeng official response: the incident happened at about 12:00 on December 19, 2019. An open fire broke out at the rear of a Xiaopeng G3 near Huashan Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou City. Users immediately called the police and put out the open fire. No casualties were caused at the scene. After the inspection of the accident vehicle, it is found that the battery pack is intact and can still work normally. Through the investigation on the scene of the accident, more burning charcoal and lighters were found on the ground at the rear of the car body, and it was judged that the accident was caused by external fire sources.

In August 2020, a Xiaopeng G3 in Guangzhou spontaneously ignited while driving at a low speed in the residential area. the fire burst out from the bottom of the vehicle, accompanied by a lot of white smoke, and then firefighters brought the fire under control. In this regard, Xiaopeng official said that there was an obvious bump in the position of the battery box in the vehicle chassis, and it was suspected that the battery was seriously damaged because of the "bottom support". Preliminary judgment was the cause of the accident.

In April 2021, a Xiaopeng G3 caught fire near the Metropolitan Square in Tianhe District, Guangzhou. The flames first started from the bottom of the vehicle, filled with a lot of smoke, and then engulfed the entire car body. From the video exposure at the scene, the Xiaopeng G3 was parked next to the Xiaopeng charging pile, when the fire was fierce and accompanied by a lot of white smoke. However, Xiaopeng did not respond to the cause of the fire.

Xiaopeng G3 is the first mass-produced model of Xiaopeng, and its sales have been lukewarm so far. Xiaopeng modified it in the medium term last year, but there is no significant improvement in terms of sales data. Data show that Xiaopeng G3/G3i delivered 29721 vehicles in 2021, while Xiaopeng P delivered 60569 vehicles, and Xiaopeng P5, which went on sale in September 2021, delivered 7865 vehicles. According to the official website, the Xiaopeng G3 is currently on sale as a medium-term revamped model with a price of between 16.89 yuan and 203900 yuan, equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries. The involved Xiaopeng G3, a 2019 model, went on sale in October 2018 at a price of 15.58 yuan to 199800 yuan.

Up to now, the relevant fire incidents are all Xiaopeng G3, not involving the medium-term modified model G3i, which is not soon on the market. It is understood that Xiaopeng G3 520km endurance model is equipped with the NCM811 square cell in cooperation with Ningde era, and the energy density breaks through 180Wh/kg. The battery box is made of aviation aluminum alloy with flame retardant structure design, which can effectively block the thermal uncontrolled diffusion of the battery. In addition, more than 100 design tests have been carried out for battery packs such as Pack, BMS, modules, batteries, etc.
