On March 30, Toyota Motor Group released production and sales data for February 2022. According to the data, Toyota's global output in February 2022 was 740996 vehicles, up 11% year-on-year, and its global sales volume was 701339 vehicles, down 2% year-on-year.
Specifically, in terms of sales volume, Toyota's global sales volume in February was 701339 vehicles, down year-on-year for six consecutive months. Sales in Japan continued to be lower than the previous year due to factors such as chip shortage, with sales falling 26% to 101714 units in February, but sales in overseas markets performed better, with sales increasing 4% year-on-year to 599625 units in February, which was also higher than the previous year for two consecutive months.
In terms of output, Toyota's global output in February was 740996 vehicles, of which 253258 vehicles were produced in Japan's domestic market, up 4% year-on-year; 487738 vehicles were produced in overseas markets, up 15% year-on-year, a record high. For February this year, Japan's domestic market production increased by 4% year-on-year, the auto industry concerns that, perhaps related to the magnitude 7.3 earthquake near Fukushima, Japan on February 1 last year, due to the earthquake triggered a large-scale power outage, Japan's auto parts supply interruption led to a decline in production, so in contrast, February this year showed retaliatory growth.
Toyota announced in February that due to the suspension of production of 11 production lines at 8 factories in Japan, including the Aichi factory, in February, and the shortage of semiconductors, Toyota expects to reduce production of new cars at home and abroad by about 150,000 vehicles in February compared with the production plan, with global production of about 700,000 vehicles, and the sales target for fiscal year 2021 will be lower than the previously announced forecast of 9 million vehicles. According to the above data, although Toyota was still deeply affected by the new crown epidemic and chip shortage in February, the production data of both Japanese domestic market and overseas market showed an increasing trend, with global output nearly 41,000 vehicles higher than originally planned.
According to Toyota Motor Group data, Toyota's global production in January-February this year was 1371887 vehicles and global sales were 1453494 vehicles. Among them, Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. experienced different degrees of decline in global production and sales in January this year. In terms of output, Toyota's global output decreased by 15% year-on-year to 630891 units in January 2022, with production in Japan falling by 32% to 162640 units. In terms of sales volume, Toyota's global sales fell 2% year-on-year to 752155 vehicles in January 2022, with sales in Japan falling 13% to 110371 vehicles.

In terms of products, Toyota sales in China mainly come from Camry, Highlander, Weilanda, Corolla, Asian Dragon, RAV4 Rongfang, while the sales performance of Asian Lion, Lingfang, Crown-Liufang, Lingshang, Lingfang, Fenglanda and other models launched in 2021 is relatively ordinary at present.
Toyota sold 277,300 vehicles in China from January to February this year, down 9.6% year-on-year. The main reason for the 9.6% drop was that FAW Toyota announced the shutdown of Tianjin factory due to the impact of the epidemic on January 13, resulting in a sharp drop in sales volume. According to relevant data, Toyota sold 148,800 new vehicles in China in January 2022, down 21.5% year-on-year. Among them, GAC Toyota sales in January increased by 0.8% year-on-year to 87,500 vehicles, FAW Toyota fell 46.0% year-on-year to 41,000 vehicles, while imported luxury brand Lexus was affected by shortage of parts supply, and sales volume in January was only 17,500 vehicles, down 27.9% year-on-year.
So far, Toyota's fiscal year 2021 (April 2021-March 2022) is only a month away, and in February, Toyota has lowered its global production plan for fiscal year 2021 from 9 million to 8.5 million vehicles. As for the production plan of about 950,000 vehicles in the last month-March of fiscal year 2021, it may also be difficult due to repeated shutdowns. On March 1, Toyota suspended operations at all of its factories in Japan, including 28 production lines at 14 plants. As a result, Toyota's production of about 13,000 vehicles was affected. In addition, Toyota Motor announced that its two Japanese factories were temporarily shut down on March 9-10 due to the indirect impact of cyber attacks on parts companies, which affected the production of about 3000 vehicles. On March 16, due to a magnitude 7.4 earthquake in the waters near Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, 11 Toyota factories and 18 production lines were suspended for 3 days. Before this, Toyota also said that due to supply chain factors, Toyota will reduce vehicle production again in March this year, Toyota will reduce production by 100,000 vehicles to 950,000 vehicles, according to the original plan, in order to recover the loss of production caused during the previous chip crisis, Toyota plans to increase production to the highest level in March. Toyota has said that after losing 140,000 vehicles due to the epidemic in January, it expects to lose 100,000 - 200,000 vehicles due to chip supply bottlenecks in March, while total output is expected to lose as much as 480,000 vehicles from January to March this year.
