AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)04/02 Report--
German carmaker Volkswagen will recall more than 100000 plug-in hybrid vehicles worldwide because of the risk of fire, a spokesman for the German carmaker Volkswagen Group said on March 31, Reuters reported. The 100000 models recalled cover a number of Volkswagen brands, including Volkswagen, Audi, Seattle and Skoda. Of these, the Volkswagen brand will recall 42300 vehicles worldwide, involving models such as Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Arteon, and Volkswagen Audi will recall 24400 vehicles.
In response, KBA, the German automobile regulator, revealed that "the loosening of the engine hood may cause the engine to come into contact with heating parts, which in turn causes a fire." There have been 16 cases affected by this hidden danger in the German market.
A Volkswagen spokesman said: "the plug-in hybrid vehicles involved in this recall combine traditional internal combustion engines with electric drive and are at risk of catching fire when using sockets to charge due to the lack of insulation of high-voltage batteries." Volkswagen will install insulation pads on the switch boxes on the high-voltage batteries of vehicles within the recall. So far, although Volkswagen has issued a recall notice around the world, Volkswagen China has not responded to the incident.
In fact, in the middle of last month, Volkswagen said it would recall 246000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUV vehicles in the United States and Canada. The main reason for the recall was that wiring problems could lead to problems with airbags, windows and brakes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled models involved the full-length versions of Atlas, Altas Cross Sport and Atlas. Volkswagen spokesman Jerohn Anderson said at the time that the company had not received any reports of injuries or fatal accidents related to the defect and that Volkswagen would notify owners and dealers by email on May 10, 2022 if the vehicle was recalled.
Judging from the number of Volkswagen recalls, 100000 vehicles are not a small number. The recall means that automakers are responsible to consumers. Appropriate calls can be taken as a precaution. Of course, frequent recalls will also make consumers lose confidence in the brand.
Data show that Volkswagen Group was founded in 1938, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany, is the largest car company in Europe. Volkswagen established its first joint venture in China in 1984 and FAW-Volkswagen in Changchun in 1991. At present, Volkswagen Group owns many automobile brands. Including Volkswagen (Germany), Audi (Germany), Lamborghini (Italy), Bentley (UK), Bugatti (France), Seattle (Spain), Skoda (Czech), Volkswagen commercial vehicles (Germany), Porsche (Germany) Scania (Sweden). According to relevant data, Volkswagen sold 309500 plug-in hybrid models worldwide in 2021, an increase of 61 per cent over the same period last year.
