According to the latest retail data released by the Federation of passengers, sales in the domestic narrow passenger car market in March 2022 were 1.579 million, down 10.5 percent from the same period last year and up 25.6 percent from the previous year, of which 445000 were new energy passenger vehicles, up 137.6 percent from the same period last year and 63.1 percent from the previous year.

According to the concerned statistics of the automobile industry, the top three companies in sales of new energy vehicles in March 2022 are BYD Automobile, Tesla China and SAIC GM Wuling, with sales of 103229, 65754 and 46791 respectively. The three car companies account for 48.5% of the new energy vehicle market. In addition, although the market share of Chery New Energy, Guangzhou Automobile Ean, Changan Automobile and Geely Automobile is small, they have all skyrocketed, while the performance of new power brands such as Xiaopeng Automobile, ideal Automobile, Nahan Automobile, Zero Motor and other new power brands are also very outstanding. As for joint venture brands, only FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen appear on the list and perform better in joint venture brands, but there is still a big gap compared with independent brands. Judging from the data, there are 12 manufacturers whose sales have exceeded 10,000 vehicles, only Tesla is a foreign brand, and the rest are independent brands.

Not surprisingly, BYD's sales of new energy vehicles hit a new high, becoming the top seller in the new energy vehicle market. On April 3, BYD announced that it had stopped production of fuel vehicles from March 2022 and would focus on pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the future. In fact, the suspension of BYD's production of fuel cars is the result of the market decision. Since BYD launched the blade battery and DM-i superhybrid system, BYD's sales share of new energy vehicles has become higher and higher, while the market for fuel vehicles has become lower and lower. It may be natural for BYD, which has hot new energy vehicles and recognized core technology, to stop producing fuel cars, but it is something that other car companies dare to say but dare not do for the time being. this also makes BYD the first automaker in the world to announce the suspension of fuel-fueled cars. Judging from the list, the performance of BYD New Energy vehicles is really eye-catching, with four models in the top 10, including Song Family, Qin Family, Han Family, Dolphin and Yuan PLUS, which have sold more than 10,000 models.

As the main supply for the Chinese market, Tesla's sales have also skyrocketed. Tesla sold 65814 vehicles wholesale in China in March, including 60 for exports and 65694 for domestic retail, including 39730 Model Y and 26024 Model 3, second only to Hongguang MINIEV, according to the Federation. According to previous reports, Tesla's Shanghai factory stopped production for two consecutive days from March 16 to 17, stopped production again from March 28 to March 31, and stopped production at the Shanghai factory for a total of six days in March. however, the shutdown of Tesla's Shanghai factory did not have a great impact on sales, but appeared and showed a clear upward trend. However, Tesla's Shanghai plant is still out of production, which is expected to have a great impact on April sales.

Hongguang MINIEV once again won the top spot in the sales of new energy vehicles, leading the list of products with a score of 41980. Although it grew by 42.7% over the same period last year, it is still not strong enough compared with each month of 2021. In fact, the current Hongguang MINIEV has begun to show the pressure of development, such as QQ ice cream, Mercedes-Benz EV, Chery Little Ant and so on. Among them, QQ ice cream has become a "dark horse", with sales exceeding 10,000 vehicles for the first time, reaching 11687, while Benz EV has reached 10707.

In terms of new power products, only the ideal ONE and Xiaopeng P7 appear on the list, of which the ideal ONE delivers 11034 vehicles, which is the only medium and large SUV on the list. The ideal ONE uses an incremental hybrid power system composed of a 1.2L three-cylinder driver and a dual motor. The rig is not directly involved in driving. Although it is equipped with a 1.2L three-cylinder driver, it does not affect its sales in terms of market reflection, or even leads a large number of new energy vehicles.

From the market point of view, a number of domestic new energy vehicle manufacturers have announced price increases since March, starting with Tesla, who announced three price increases in a week. Since then, including BYD, Xiaopeng Automobile, Nahan Automobile, Weima Automobile, Zero running Automobile, Guangzhou Auto Ean, and so on, announced price increases one after another. In addition, a number of car companies have also begun to brew price increases, including NIO, Lantu, Polar Krypton and other plans to raise prices in May. However, judging from the performance of the new energy vehicle market in March, under the background that a number of new energy vehicle companies have announced price increases, and against the background of rising domestic finished oil prices, it has stimulated the outbreak of the new energy vehicle market, showing a trend of "if you don't buy it, you can't buy it."

Sales of new energy vehicles skyrocketed again in March, and there may be a "late spring cold" in April. As mentioned earlier, due to the impact of the epidemic, Tesla's Shanghai factory is still in a state of shutdown, while Tesla's Shanghai factory plays an important role in domestic sales and external supply, and its shutdown will directly lead to uncertainty about sales in April and even in the first quarter. In addition, the epidemic in Shanghai affects not only car companies such as Tesla, because a number of multinational parts suppliers have set up factories in Shanghai, affecting national and even global car production. Previously, NIO announced helplessly on its APP: supply chain partners stopped production one after another due to the epidemic, and production of NIO vehicles was suspended as a result. Throughout the global market, although only some car companies have issued stop-production notices, the overall situation is not optimistic.

Finally, let's talk about the development of new energy vehicles. From the general direction, BYD's discontinued production of fuel vehicles does represent the inevitable trend of the transformation of the automobile industry and represents that the products have entered a new period of development. This transformation is in line with BYD's consistent strategic thinking and historical accumulation, but it does not mean that all car companies can meet this requirement. According to incomplete statistics of public reports, at least 13 car brands around the world have clearly announced the time to stop production or sales of fuel vehicles, including Jaguar Land Rover, Haima Motors and Audi. In addition, FAW, SAIC, Geely and other traditional car companies have not clearly stated the specific time of stopping the production of fuel vehicles, but most of them take 2025 as the time node as the key moment of electric transformation. For the current market, although new energy vehicles to replace fuel vehicles is an inevitable trend, but the current market is still dominated by fuel vehicles, the two are not the relationship between growth and decline, but a gradual process.
