BMW recalls 185000 models in the United States due to increased engine fire risk

According to European media reports, BMW launched another recall in the United States, a total of 18. 50,000 models, because the engines of these vehicles are at risk of catching fire. This is the second recall since 2017. The recalled models include BMW 3-Series, 5-Series and Z4 models in 2006.

BMW stated in a document submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that bypass heaters may be short-circuited. The bypass heater is originally designed to prevent the front side ventilation system of the engine crankcase from icing. However, in the manufacturing process, non-standard operation may cause moisture near the heater to cause a short circuit. BMW described in the document that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the bypass valve heater even if the vehicle was not in use.
