AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)04/19 Report--

On April 18, the design details of the front part of Jidu's first concept car were exposed. the new car will be unveiled at this year's Beijing Auto Show and will be delivered in 2023. For the first car with exposure, the biggest highlight is the use of dual lidar. From the exposed pictures, there is a lidar on both sides of the front hatch. As early as January this year, Jidu released a promotional video of the first concept car. According to the video released, the Jidu concept car has a scissors door design in addition to the dual lidar at the front.

Wang Weibao, head of smart driving at Jidu, said: the advantage of placing the lidar on the front compartment cover can bring a better FOV angle, from 120 to 180 degrees per radar. Secondly, because the recognition accuracy of the key area in front of the vehicle is relatively high, in the area of 60 degrees FOV directly in front of the vehicle, the double lidar can double overlap, there are more point cloud data on the target, and the recognition accuracy will be higher.

However, for the dual radar design of the Jidu car, ideal car CEO Li would like to comment: there is no difference in performance between one on the roof and two on the hood or bumper, and even the performance of a single one on the top of the head will be better. However, in terms of pedestrian collisions, maintenance costs, and vibration control (linking the main body), the roof is optimal. The only problem is that the lidar shape on the roof will need to adapt because it looks too much like a mobile warrior-too high. It is worth noting that in response to Li Xiang's comments, Jidu CEO Xia Yiping also commented that there are still differences. The 120C FOV is not the same as the 180C FOV, and the corner case solution is also different, so there are differences in product capability and experience, even in safety.

It is understood that the role of lidar in cars is mainly divided into 3D/4D environment perception, detecting road conditions and obstacles in the process of vehicle driving, transmitting data and signals to the brain of autopilot, and then making corresponding driving actions. Lidar can be said to be the invisible eye in self-driving. For example, according to the return time after the laser encounters an obstacle, the comparative distance between the overall target and itself is calculated, which can also help the vehicle to identify the street entrance and azimuth of the system. At present, there are different opinions on which is better, dual lidar or single lidar. In any case, for Jidu, the first model is equipped with dual lidar, which really makes people feel full of technology. But in the end, we have to return to the market sales, whether it can win the favor of users in the market, which remains to be verified by time.

According to relevant data: Jidu Automobile is a smart car company formed by Baidu and Geely. As a late entrant in the new energy automobile industry, Jidu Automobile, backed by Baidu and Geely, is naturally favored by the industry. However, there is still some uncertainty about whether Jidu can stand out.

As a set car, autopilot is the biggest selling point of its products. But self-driving also has certain risks, although it can highlight the sense of technology of the whole vehicle, but once a major accident occurs, it is bound to affect the image of the brand. In addition, in recent years, the problem of core shortage has become more and more serious, which is also a major challenge for Jiedu Automobile, which is in the period of development. Xia Yiping, CEO of Jidu Automobile, has said that the chips needed in the product verification process are often not found, and if the chips cannot be supported during the verification period, the progress of research and development can easily be delayed.
