On April 19th, Mercedes-Benz's new EQS pure electric SUV was officially released. The new car is the third model in the Mercedes-EQ series based on the EVA pure electric platform after the new EQS and the new EQE. It is also the flagship SUV in the Mercedes-Benz EQ family, positioning the pure electric large luxury SUV. It is understood that Mercedes-Benz EQS pure electric SUV will be co-produced with EQE SUV in Tuscaloosa plant in the United States this year.

Spy photos of the new car have been exposed many times before. Specifically, in terms of appearance, the new car continues the classic design elements of the EQ family. In the front part, the new car uses a black closed grille, with triangle-style daytime driving lights on both sides, and the central Mercedes-Benz brand logo. The side and rear parts of the body are relatively simple, the side lines of the body are smooth, and there are not too many lines and corners design, highlighting the round outline of the new car. The rear part of the new car is equipped with a through-type taillight group, and the interior of the lamp cavity is decorated with a 3D spiral shape. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 5125/1959/1718mm and the wheelbase is 3210mm.

In the interior part, the new car continues the design style of the EQS model, the new car is equipped with a 1.41m-long MBUX super screen, the full LCD instrument size is 12.3in, the central control screen size is 17.7in, and the screen in front of the co-driver is the same as the meter, which is also 12.3in. in addition, the new car also offers seven interior colors, and the second row of seats are equipped with luxury headrest. In terms of seat layout, the new car offers two optional layouts of 5 seats and 7 seats.

In terms of power, the new car provides EQS 450 + and EQS 5804MATIC, of which EQS 450+ is a rear wheel drive single motor version with a maximum power of 265kW and peak torque of 568Nm; EQS 5804MATIC is a four-wheel drive twin motor version with maximum power 400kW, peak torque of 858N ·m, and the new car is equipped with 107.8kW ·h battery pack. In terms of battery life, the vehicle has a range of up to 660km under WLTP conditions.

In terms of competitive products, the new car will compete with models such as BMW IX, Tesla Model X and Maybach after its launch. For reference, the official guidance price of BMW IX is 74.69-996900 yuan; the official guidance price of Tesla Model X is 93.999-999990 yuan. Judging from the price of competitors' vehicles, it is expected that the price of the new car will not be less than one million yuan.

Among the traditional luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, the three German luxury brands have all accelerated the pace of electrification, among which the electrification transformation of Mercedes-Benz is relatively fast. In July last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would upgrade from the previous "electric first" strategy to a "all-electric" strategy. It is planned that pure electric models will be available in all market segments this year, pure electric and plug-in hybrid models account for 50% of total sales in 2025, and the sale of fuel vehicles will be stopped in 2030, that is, new car sales will basically be transformed into pure electric models in 2030. At present, Mercedes-Benz has a wealth of electric products covering different market segments, including EQA, EQB, EQC and EQS, among which EQA, EQB and EQC are all oil-to-electric models. In 2019, Mercedes-Benz officially launched its first domestic pure electric EQC with a price of 49.98-579800 yuan, while 2021 can be said to be the product year of Mercedes-Benz. In 2021, Mercedes-Benz launched a number of new energy products, including two domestic pure electric cars, EQA and EQB, of which the EQA model is priced at 365800 yuan and the EQB model is priced at 437800 yuan. On December 17 of the same year, Mercedes-Benz officially announced the domestic price of its pure electric large car Mercedes-Benz EQS. the new car has launched two power versions and four configuration models, with a price range of 107.96-1.5186 million yuan. what is different from the previous listed models such as EQA, EQB and EQC is that Mercedes-Benz EQS positioning luxury large pure electric car is a truly pure electric platform. The car is expected to go on sale this year. In addition, the brand new EQE, Mercedes-EQ's first pure electric car produced in China based on the EVA platform, is also expected to be domestically produced this year. At present, the new EQE has appeared in the declaration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and confirmed that it is made in China.

For BBA, the current family flagship SUV of BMW and Audi are iX and e-tron, respectively. BMW iX3 and Audi e-tron sold 22683 and 1439 pure electric SUV models in 2021 and 5785 and 242 in the first three months of 2022, respectively. Although Mercedes-Benz has launched a number of pure electric vehicle products in the field of electric vehicles, its performance in terms of sales is not optimistic. From January to March this year, the domestic sales of EQA, EQB and EQC were 769,778 and 984 respectively, with an average of only 200 to 300 vehicles per month. In addition, at present, the pure electric vehicle market of more than 300000 yuan has been first occupied by Tesla and the new car-building forces. It is obviously very difficult for Mercedes-Benz to bring new breakthroughs in the electric vehicle field by relying on the three models of EQA, EQB and EQC. As for the performance of the new EQS pure electric SUV after its listing, it is still unknown.

According to the latest data, the cumulative global sales of Mercedes-Benz pure electric and plug-in hybrid models in the first quarter of this year were 67800, up 37% from the same period last year, of which 21900 were pure electric vehicles, up 210% from the same period last year. Global cumulative sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 45900, up 8% from the same period last year. According to Mercedes-Benz's official plan, Mercedes-Benz will launch eight new energy products to the Chinese market this year, including the above-mentioned pure electric products such as the new EQS pure electric SUV, the new EQE and the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 534MATIC+, as well as plug-in hybrid products for C-class cars and S-class cars.
