The size of the new car: length, width and height are 4872mm/1846mm/1481mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2966mm, which is larger than the size of BMW 3 Series long wheelbase version and longer wheelbase. On the sides of the body, a streamlined design is adopted, and a new style of 19-inch aerodynamic rim is optional to reduce the drag of the vehicle. On the tail side, there is an i3 eDrive 35L logo to further emphasize the new energy identity and identification of the new car.

In terms of interior, the new car adopts BMW's latest family style. Unlike the fuel version of BMW 3 Series, the whole center console adopts a through-floating curved screen. The new car is equipped with a dual screen design composed of 14.9-inch touch screen and 12.3-inch LCD instrument. The instrument panel and central display screen can cooperate with each other. In terms of power, BMW i3 is equipped with a drive motor with maximum output power of 210kw and peak torque of 400N·m, matched with 70kwh high nickel ternary lithium battery pack, and the range under CLTC standard reaches 526km.

It is understood that after the launch of the new car, Tesla Model 3, Xiaopeng P7, NIO ET5 and other models will be targeted. With reference to April Xiaopeng p7 sales of 3714 vehicles, it is not difficult to see that BMW i3 will face fierce competition after its launch. Due to its "oil to electricity" status, BMW i3 sales prospects are not optimistic.

At present, with the rapid development of new energy vehicles, BMW is also accelerating its electrification process. BMW officials have said it expects to launch 12 pure electric models in the Chinese market by 2023, covering almost all current market segments. By the end of 2025, BMW Group plans to deliver 2 million pure electric vehicles worldwide, which will reach 10 million by 2030. Of course, as for whether these models can be accepted by consumers after they are launched, it is still unknown at present.

With the arrival of the electric trend, BMW's electric transformation is still in the production of electric vehicles through the transformation of fuel vehicle platforms. This choice of "oil to electricity" after weighing the cost investment also reflects the difficulty of the transformation of traditional automobile enterprises into electrification. BMW's senior management in charge of research and development has also said that it is too costly and time-consuming to completely abandon the technology and platform of fuel vehicles and to develop and build electric vehicle production lines from zero. In this case, some insiders said: "The products created by oil-to-electricity and pure electric platform are different, and the competitiveness of oil-to-electricity will be insufficient, so a brand-new pure electric platform is still needed."
