AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/15 Report--
Due to the rising prices of raw materials and other factors, BMW also announced that it will raise prices, and BMW will raise the prices of some of its domestic and imported models from June 1. Due to the current global epidemic and rising raw material costs, BMW has raised the new recommended retail prices for some models from June 1, 2022, according to a notice to dealers. At the same time, the price increase catalogue of BMW brand models was also exposed online, with the highest increase of 10100 yuan and the lowest increase of 1000 yuan.
According to "BMW passenger" statistics, the price increase of some BMW models this time is 10100-1000 yuan, most of which are imported models, among which imported models involve BMW 5-series standard axles, 4-series double doors, BMW 4-series convertibles, 4-series 4-doors, X4 and 6-series GT, with vehicle increases ranging from 1000 yuan to 10100 yuan, while domestic models involve BMW X3 and 5-series long axles, with vehicle increases ranging from 2100 yuan to 5000 yuan. However, what is different from previous price increases by car companies is that there is a description of "price adjustment according to vehicle production cycle" in the price increase catalogue exposed online, while in the past, the price increases of most car companies were raised according to the booking time, in other words, the BMW price increase will take effect from June 1, 2022, but some models ordered before that may also be affected (subject to the car purchase contract). According to a notice sent by BMW to dealers: BMW's price increase will take effect from June 1, 2022, and for vehicles with customer orders as of May 31, 2022 and sold at the new price after June 1, the dealer will be provided with the corresponding additional price difference discount (specific policies and operating rules please contact BMW dealers for specific understanding and final confirmation).
So far, BMW officials have not responded to the above price increase news. In fact, this is not the first time BMW has announced a price increase this year. On April 12, BMW announced price increases for some of its models, ranging from 1600 yuan to 11000 yuan, including BMW 3-Series, X3, X4 and 4-Series models. However, the reasons for the price increase are not exactly the same as those reported above. The reason for the previous price increase of BMW is, on the one hand, due to the lack of core earlier, the automatic parking assistance system, mobile phone wireless charging and Wi-Fi hot spot functions of some BMW models have been cancelled, and now the newly produced models have restored the above configuration, so the vehicle prices involved have also been adjusted. On the other hand, according to Dr. Nicolas Peter, director of BMW Group in charge of finance and China affairs, the price of all-series BMW models sold in Germany and other parts of Europe will rise by about 3%, mainly due to rising global raw material costs, such as rhodium, palladium and steel, which also pointed out that in the context of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, due to the rising cost of raw materials. BMW's overall manufacturing costs could increase by $1.2 billion.
Data show that BMW's global sales in the first quarter of this year were 519796 vehicles, down 7.3% from the same period last year, of which 208507 vehicles were sold in China, down 9.2% from the same period last year. The decline was mainly due to zero supply shortages and epidemic restrictions.
In the automotive industry, rising raw material prices and chip shortage environment, BMW price increase is not the first and will not be the last, in the BBA camp, Mercedes-Benz has taken the lead in announcing a price increase. Prior to this, Mercedes-Benz issued a notice to dealers that Beijing Mercedes-Benz sales and Service Co., Ltd. has raised the manufacturer's suggested retail price of some models on sale since April 2, 2022, with a maximum increase of 121000 yuan, including imported C-class, E-class, CLA, S-class, GLS, G-class and some Maybach and AMG models. Domestic models involve E-class long-axis version and GLC long-axis version. It almost covers the products that Mercedes-Benz is selling. On April 12, Wei Brand Guan Xuan, a subsidiary of Great Wall, adjusted the official price of Wei coffee models on sale, including fuel and hybrid models, by 5000 yuan to 12000 yuan. On May 11, the prices of all models under the SAIC Volkswagen brand were raised, ranging from 1000 to 3000 yuan for fuel vehicles and 3000 to 5000 yuan for new energy vehicles.
According to incomplete statistics, nearly 30 car companies have announced price increases for a total of more than 80 models since the beginning of this year. Judging from the trend that major car companies have announced price increases, the current price increase in the automobile industry has spread from the field of new energy vehicles to the field of fuel vehicles. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Federation of passengers, has said that the rise in the price of raw materials has exceeded expectations, while the shortage of chips has caused a shortage of current models. Multiple factors promote the increase in manufacturing costs, which is also the key reason for the increase in vehicle prices of many car companies, but Cui Dongshu also pointed out that the automobile industry as a whole will not usher in a wave of price increases. Compared with new energy companies, the demand of traditional car companies has shrunk. Price increases are not strong enough.
