AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/16 Report--

According to the latest announcement of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. has filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products. Since May 23, 2022, a total of 107293 domestic Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles with production dates from October 19, 2021 to April 26, 2022 have been recalled.

According to the announcement, in some vehicles within the scope of this recall, when preparing for DC fast charging or during DC fast charging, the CPU of the infotainment system may not be cooled enough. as a result, the running speed of the CPU slows down and the display of the central touch screen is slow, and in serious cases, the CPU may restart, causing the display screen to fail to display. When the above faults occur, the reversing image, windshield (defrosting, defog and wiper) function settings, driving gear display and indicator lights will not be used normally, in extreme cases, it will increase the risk of vehicle collision accidents, and there are hidden dangers.

In view of the above defects, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the recalled vehicles to 2022.12.3.3 or subsequent versions of the software free of charge through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology. The upgraded vehicle in preparation for DC fast charging or during DC fast charging will alleviate the rise in CPU temperature to prevent it from slowing down or restarting. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla service center to upgrade the software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate safety risks. Tesla reminded: before the implementation of the vehicle recall, users should drive the vehicle carefully when preparing for fast charging. After receiving the recall software update notice, the user should upgrade the vehicle software as soon as possible.

From the production time of the recalled products, 107293 domestic Model 3 and Model Y models were equipped with AMD Ryzen processor chips. Since October 2021, Tesla began to replace the AMD Ryzen chip for the domestic high-performance version of Model Y, and then successively replaced the chip for Model Y and other versions of Model 3. Prior to this, domestic Tesla models are equipped with Intel Atom A3950 processor chip.

Earlier, Tesla in the United States launched a recall for similar reasons. Tesla recalled nearly 130000 cars in the United States because the CPU in the car's infotainment system overheated during rapid charging, which could cause the car's touch screen to malfunction or completely blank, the Associated Press reported. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said, "during fast charging or preparing for fast charging, the infotainment CPU may not cool sufficiently and lead to excessive temperature, which may cause CPU processing to slow down or restart." NHTSA believes that the problem may prevent car owners from using a spare camera, using a touchscreen to change gears and adjusting the speed of the wiper (some Tesla models automatically adjust the speed of the wiper, which only contains manual speed control in the central touchscreen).

Since the beginning of this year, Tesla has conducted four recalls in the Chinese market, all in the form of OTA, with a total recall of 275800 vehicles. On February 18, 2022, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 26047 domestic Model 3 (12003) and Model Y (14044) electric vehicles produced from December 28, 2020 to January 15, 2022. On April 7, 2022, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported and domestic Model 3 electric vehicles produced from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022, totaling 127785 (including 34207 imported Model 3 vehicles and 93578 domestic Model 3 vehicles). On April 29, 2022, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported and domestic Model 3 high-performance electric vehicles produced from January 12, 2019 to March 25, 2022, a total of 14684 electric vehicles (including 1850 imported cars and 12834 domestic vehicles).

In terms of sales, Tesla's cumulative sales in China from January to April 2022 was 109800, an increase of 35.7% over the same period last year, including 34700 for Model 3 and 75600 for Model Y. Tesla's sales in China plummeted in April, selling only 1512 vehicles a month, as Tesla's Shanghai factory stopped production in April and did not resume production until April 19. At present, even though Tesla has resumed production, under the influence of epidemic prevention and control and the supply of spare parts, it still takes a long time to climb to the pre-epidemic level, and its production speed is still relatively slow. According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Tesla has delayed his plan to increase production at his Shanghai factory to pre-epidemic levels by at least a week, according to foreign media reports.
