On May 25th, FAW Toyota's new MPV model Granvia was officially launched, and announced its Chinese name "Grivia". Comprehensive Automotive Industry concern previously reported that the FAW Toyota Granvia (Grevia) is a sister model of the Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Sienna (Sena), which is expected to go on sale in the third quarter.

In terms of model name, Toyota Granvia is a medium-and large-sized Toyota MPV, which was first launched in Taiwan in May 2019 with a total of five models with six and nine seats, with a price range of NT $174.90 to NT $1.879 million. Data show that Toyota Granvia based on Toyota HIACE (Sea Lion) to build a new MPV, compared to the van-oriented HIACE, Toyota Granvia has a more luxurious configuration and interior design. Therefore, the "Granvia" is not a brand-new model, FAW Toyota uses Granvia as the new car name, it is very likely to borrow the influence of "Granvia".

Although FAW Toyota named the new MPV Granvia, it did not have much to do with "Granvia". As a sister car of Guangzhou Auto Toyota Sena, the FAW Toyota Granvia is based on the American version of Toyota Sienna sports version, so it looks more sporting than the Guangzhou Auto Toyota race. On the front face, the large heat dissipation grille surrounded by the new car adopts a honeycomb mesh design, while the Senna front face uses a chrome-plated horizontal strip mesh structure. In addition, there are vents on both sides of the bumper of the new car, which is also one of the areas with Senna. For the side and rear parts of the body, FAW Toyota Granvia is basically the same as that of Guangzhou Auto Toyota, with a special-shaped design of smoked black taillights and a double-layer design around the rear, equipped with grid-shaped decorative panels and chrome-plated decorative strips. It is worth mentioning that FAW Toyota Granvia does not hang the crown logo, so if only from the rear shape, it is still difficult to distinguish the difference between it and Sina. In terms of size, according to the declaration information, the length, width and height of the FAW Toyota Granvia are respectively 5175 to 1765 (1785) mm, and the wheelbase is 3060mm, which is basically the same as Sena.

In terms of interior decoration, the new car is equipped with a 7-inch full LCD dashboard, a three-frame multi-function steering wheel, a suspension design for the central multimedia touch screen and a large number of physical function buttons. In terms of power, FAW Toyota Granvia is equipped with the same hybrid assembly as the new Crown-Lufang, and a 2.5L four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine + motor hybrid system, the comprehensive power of the system may reach 249hp (183kW), transferred from the planetary gear type E-CVT gearbox to the wheels. FAW Toyota currently declares only two-wheel drive models, but rumors may launch four-wheel drive models.

As we all know, the Sienna is a Toyota MPV model, the first generation Sienna was launched in 1997, and then ushered in the second generation model in 2003. Sienna also entered the Chinese market by parallel import from the second generation model, and launched the third generation Sienna in 2009. Generally speaking, the reputation of Sienna in the domestic market is OK, but the high tariffs and price increases are beyond the reach of many consumers. In this context, Toyota decided to introduce the fourth generation Sienna into domestic production, and the domestic Sienna has undoubtedly become one of the most anticipated models this year, especially for family travel. At present, Guangzhou Auto Toyota and FAW Toyota have introduced Sienna to deepen the two-car strategy.

The reason why Sena is hot, on the one hand, is that the car itself is hot. The parallel import price of the overseas version of Sienna is between 40 and 600000 yuan, and the overall price is slightly higher, so that many favored consumers are out of reach, while Toyota's decision to make domestic Sienna in China means that its price will be explored to lower the threshold for consumers to buy cars. Therefore, compared with FAW Toyota, Guangzhou Auto Toyota took the lead in realizing the domestic listing of Sienna, and announced its price of 30.98-405800 yuan on October 30th, 2021. However, it is the pursuit of new cars by consumers that led to crazy price increases after Sena went public, making the price of the car a lot higher, comparable to the price of imported Sienna.

Therefore, under the influence of the price increase, GAC Toyota Sina's initial performance is not good. According to the data, Sena sales from January to April in 2022 were 4329, 4120, 6444 and 4993 respectively. According to its market performance, it is second only to Buick GL8 and Chuanqi M8, and higher than Odyssey / Ericsson and other medium and large MPV. It should be noted that Sena's good market performance is largely due to the easing of price increases in the end market, and some areas can buy cars at affordable prices, reducing the resistance of consumers to a certain extent. However, as a sister model, FAW Toyota Granvia may also face a price increase in the market. FAW Toyota dealers said that "there is no guarantee that there will not be a price increase."
