On Buick Brand Day 2022, the new Buick brand logo was officially launched. At the same time, the new Buick flagship MPV GL8 Century CENTURY and the Buick brand's first pure electric concept SUV Electra-X based on the Autenon platform will be officially released on this brand day.
In line with many previous car brands, Buick's new brand says it also uses a flat design. Compared with the old and new designs, the new Buick logo does not have the ring that wraps the shield, and the three internal shields are arranged independently and neatly together, not as staggered as before. At the same time, the new Buick LOGO changes the sloping metal lines in the original three shields into arc shapes, and the dark areas and hollowed-out parts make the plane graphics more three-dimensional. As of press time, the Buick brand has not disclosed when the new LOGO will be launched, but the Buick's first all-electric concept SUV Electra-X on the Autenon platform is likely to be the first model to use the new car.
According to the data, David Dunbar Buick founded the Buick Motor Company with the help of the Brisco brothers in May 1904, but soon got into trouble and was later taken over by William Durant, the boss of the largest carriage manufacturer in the United States at that time. In September 1908, William Durant founded General Motors, took Buick as the cornerstone of the new company, and created the first annual car output in the United States.
Buick's first car logo was born in 1904, its main figure is people pulling steam cars walking on the earth, although the LOGO only used a year, but it is one of the most symbolic car symbols in Buick history. Beginning in 1905, the Buick logo began to be simplified and the English logo "Buick" appeared. By 1937, Buick's first shield logo was born, and the sloping checkered lines split the orange-red shield in two. the top half of the shield was a deer head and the bottom half was a golden cross. the brand-new logo for the next few years has been modified on this basis. In 1959, the Buick three shields logo was first born, three narrow shields were placed in a circle, each shield has its own hue, including red, white and blue, while the three shields and three colors represent the three Buick models of that year, namely the Electra,LeSabre and Invicta. Between 1975 and 1980, Buick also tried to use the Eagle as its symbol, but it took only four years to return to the three Shield logo. In 1980, the Buick three Shield sign was launched again, and today, although there are still several adjustments in the middle, the Ring three Shield sign has been retained.
Along with the release of the new logo, Buick also unveiled two new cars, a new generation of flagship MPV model named "GL8 Century CENTURY". From the point of view of appearance, Buick GL8 Century CENTURY basically follows the design style of Buick GL8 flagship concept car, the front face adopts the big mouth design with a sense of the future, and the headlamp group adopts the inverted "L-shaped" style with aesthetic design. At the same time, the taillight group of the car adopts a penetrating design and also has an L-shaped luminous shape. In terms of interior decoration, the new car will adopt a more luxurious four-seat design + private space layout, the interior of the whole car will be wrapped in leather material with explosive texture, and there are partition walls and large-size display screens between the front and rear rows. The interior style is similar to that of the Lexus LM four-seater version.
According to the official statement, GL8 Century CENTURY will open up a higher-end and more luxurious MPV market segment and usher in a new era of luxury MPV travel with the "masterpiece of the century". In the future, GL8 Century CENTURY will further consolidate Buick's position in the domestic MPV market together with GL8 Luzun ES and GL8 land business class. Data show that Buick GL8 accumulated sales of 41810 vehicles from January to April, ranking first in the MPV market.
In addition, Buick also launched a new all-electric Buick Electra-X concept car, which is the first Buick all-electric SUV concept car developed based on the Ultium Ortenon electric vehicle platform. In appearance, the new car will use a new minimalist design language, and will be equipped with a new generation of Super Cruise super-auxiliary driving system, as well as a new generation of VCS intelligent cockpit. As a reference, the first domestic model introduced into GM's Ultium Orlando platform is the Cadillac LYRIQ Ruige, which can provide rear single-motor and front-rear dual-motor models with motor power of 255kW and 375kW, peak torque of 347Nm and 510Nm respectively, and CLTC mileage of 653km and 600km.
Prior to this, GM released a new brand logo as early as the beginning of 2021. From the design point of view, the new GM brand logo retains the basic framework of the original logo, but from the new brand logo, it has changed a lot. First, the dark blue gradient rectangular frame was replaced by a light blue gradient rounded rectangle, and the capital GM letters were replaced by lowercase letters with an underscore at the bottom of the "m" letter, which is officially interpreted as representing the Ultium platform developed by General Motors. According to the plan, GM will invest more in electric vehicles and self-driving, launching 30 all-electric models worldwide by the end of 2025, covering Cadillac, GMC, Buick and Chevrolet brands. Among them, new energy models will account for more than 40% of GM's new models launched in China.
