On the evening of June 2, BYD released its May production and sales figures, which showed that it sold 114943 new energy vehicles in May. Of this total, sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 114183, up 152.8 per cent from 45176 in the same period last year. In addition, from January to May this year, BYD sold 507314 vehicles, an increase of 348.11% over the same period last year. Of these, 504395 new energy passenger vehicles were sold, and according to BYD's target of 1.5 million in 2022, BYD had achieved its annual sales target of 1.5 million as of May.

This is also the third consecutive month since March that BYD has sold more than 100000 vehicles, which is far ahead of other new energy car companies. Judging from the new power brands that have been announced, the sales of many new power car companies increased in May compared with the previous month. Among them, the highest sales volume of ideal cars was 11496, that of Nawei was 11009, that of Xiaopeng was 10125, that of zero running cars was 10069, and that of Lulai was 7024, but the total sales of these car companies still lagged far behind that of BYD.

In terms of specific model segments, BYD's DM series sold 60834 vehicles in May, while the remaining 53349 came from EV models. Among them, the Han family sold 23934 vehicles, up 359% from the same period last year; the Tang family sold 8449 vehicles, up 269% from the same period last year; as the current sales pillar of BYD, the Song family sold 31989 vehicles, and the Song DM series increased by 779.4%; the Qin family sold 20753 vehicles, and the Song PLUS EV increased by 109.9%; the Yuan family sold 13333 vehicles, of which Yuan PLUS increased by 13.0%; and dolphins sold 6430. Oceannet's first car, the destroyer 05, sold 4558 cars in May and 3900 in the e-series.

As the leader of new energy vehicles, BYD officially announced on April 3 that it was the first traditional car company in the world to withdraw from the fuel vehicle market, becoming the first traditional car company in the world to stop producing fuel vehicles. According to the company's strategic development needs, BYD will stop the production of fuel-fueled vehicles from March 2022, BYD said in a note on the production of fuel-fueled vehicles. In the future, in the automotive sector, the company will focus on pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. In response to the reasons for stopping fuel vehicles, Li Qian, secretary of the board of directors of BYD, said on May 30 when participating in the CCTV financial "financial interview" program: "on the one hand, because BYD is the global leader in new energy vehicles, BYD thinks it is time to concentrate on developing electric vehicles to lead the industry to a new level." The second reason is that BYD electric cars are completely in short supply, our production capacity is not enough, and we have to free up the production capacity of fuel vehicles for electric cars, so cutting fuel vehicles should be a very important strategic decision for the company. and it is of great help to the company in the short, medium and long term.

In addition, under the circumstances of the spread of the epidemic in various places, the disruption of logistics, the impact on the automobile supply chain, and the decline in the overall sales volume of the automobile industry, BYD still maintained the growth trend and won the "sales" of the car company that month. Instead of surpassing FAW-Volkswagen, which ranks first all the year round, the automobile industry is concerned that the main reason for BYD's growth is that BYD itself has a relatively perfect supply chain. BYD is both a carmaker and a battery supplier, and its own development and production of blade batteries avoid the problem of "sticking neck". Li Qian also pointed out on the CCTV financial "financial interview" program that BYD is still in short supply. At present, it owes more than 500000 market orders, and consumers have to wait four and a half months, or even six months, to buy BYD cars. If not for the impact of the epidemic, sales may be better, as for this year's annual sales target mainly depends on the quality of the supply chain.

Affected by the epidemic and supply chain disruptions, sales in the entire car market fell sharply in April, and sales picked up in May, but still not good enough. Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said that the improvement of the epidemic has greatly improved the tension in the previous supply chain, and enterprises have been able to resume work and increase production, all of which are positive factors for sales growth in May. at present, most enterprises still have a large number of undelivered orders, and sales in June are expected to continue to grow. in addition, some people in the industry have pointed out that the automobile supply chain has gradually improved since May. However, the repeated epidemic and the situation in Russia and Ukraine still make the supply chain full of uncertainties.
