AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/16 Report--
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Ford will recall 2925968 vehicles. The reason for the recall is that the bushing between the gear position of the vehicle and the gearbox may interfere with the shifting operation, resulting in the driver not being able to shift correctly, thus causing the hidden danger of incorrect operation. If the shift cable bushing of the vehicle involved fails, the vehicle may not be able to cut into the gear the driver wants, increasing the risk of an accident, officials said. NHTSA also said that even if the driver selects the "park" gear, these problematic vehicles may continue to drive.
It is understood that the specific models recalled are: 2013 to 2019 Ford Sharp, production date from October 5,2011 to August 2,2019, equipped with 1.5L, 1.6L, 2.0L or 2.5L engines and 6F35 gearbox models, a total of 1726763 vehicles. The 2013 to 2018 Ford C-MAX, produced from January 19, 2012 to April 26, 2018, features a 2.0L engine and ECVT transmission. A total of 143220 vehicles;2013 to 2016 Ford Mondeo, production date February 3, 2012 to April 4, 2016, equipped with 1.5L, 1.6L or 2.0L engines and 6F35 or ECVT transmissions, a total of 439483 vehicles; 2013 to 2021 Ford Transit Connect, production date June 13, 2013 to July 30, 2021, equipped with 1.6L or 2.0L engine and 6F35 or 8F35 transmission, a total of 107102 vehicles; The 2015 to 2018 Ford Sharp, produced from June 25, 2014 to September 4, 2018, features 2.0L, 2.7L or 3.5L engines and 6F35 or 6F55 transmissions, totaling 509400 vehicles.
Ford said it was still investigating the cause of the failure, pointing out that both high heat and high humidity conditions could have an impact. It said it would contact owners of vehicles involved in the recall starting June 27 and ask them to drive the vehicles to local dealers to replace the bushings. Ford will also install a protective cap on the shift cable bushing. All repairs for this recall will be provided free of charge, and owners who fix the problem at their own expense will be compensated.
It is worth noting that this recall is Ford's second large-scale recall this week. Ford recalled nearly 49000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles in the United States two days ago because of battery safety problems. The reason for the recall is that the main contactor of the high-voltage battery may overheat, resulting in the vehicle not starting or losing power immediately during driving. Ford said it expects to propose a resolution to the issue in the third quarter and will temporarily halt deliveries of Mustang Mach-E until the issue is resolved.
It is understood that the vehicles involved are 48924 Mach-E vehicles produced and delivered from 2021 to 2022. Ford said the recall was similar to Tesla's OTA upgrade, and owners did not need additional maintenance or service from dealers to fix the error, but if they were not familiar with the solution, they could also go to dealers for help.
Regarding the Mustang Mach-E recall, it has been recalled several times since its launch. The May recall for potential software faults due to unintended vehicle acceleration involved 464 vehicles manufactured between October 3, 2020 and May 26, 2021. In September 2021, Ford initiated two recalls, recalling 31236 Mustang Mach-E vehicles due to the risk of glass falling off due to adhesion problems.
Although the recall reflects the responsible attitude of automobile enterprises, it improves and optimizes their own products. However, for car owners, the quality of the car is particularly important, frequent recalls and quality problems or affect the brand image and reputation, its sales will also have an adverse impact.
