AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/17 Report--

Toyota, which is experiencing a shortage of semiconductors and raw materials, has struggled with production capacity, cutting production targets three times in June alone. Toyota announced on its website on June 16th that its global production target for June had been cut again to 750000 vehicles. Although the closure measures have been lifted in Shanghai, the impact still exists, and the supply of spare parts has been delayed due to equipment failures in overseas supply plants. In view of this, Toyota once again announced a shutdown and cut production, affecting production of about 40,000 vehicles.

According to Toyota Motor's latest shutdown plan, of a total of 28 production lines at Toyota's 14 factories in Japan, 11 production lines at seven factories, including the Woncho plant, Takaoka plant and Miyagi Daheng plant, will be suspended from today (June 17) to early July (until July 1), including Toyota Crown, bZ4X, C-HR, RAV4 and Lexus NX. Among them, the longest shutdown time is the Wonmachi factory in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, where some production lines were suspended for a total of 11 days from June 17 to July 1; the shortest shutdown time is Toyota East Japan Iwate plant and Toyota body Yoshihara plant, some production lines are shut down for 5 days, other plants stop production for about 10 days.

This is the third time that Toyota has announced production cuts for June. According to Toyota, these factory shutdowns and cuts are all due to the shortage of semiconductors and raw materials caused by the spread of the epidemic. However, the shutdown does not affect Toyota's production plans for the current fiscal year. Toyota still stresses that the full-year production plan for fiscal year 2022 (April 2022-March 2023) remains unchanged at about 9.7 million vehicles previously announced. Toyota issued a shutdown notice on May 24th and May 27th respectively. Affected by this, Toyota lowered its June production target by 100000 vehicles to 850000 vehicles on May 24 and 50, 000 vehicles to 800000 vehicles on May 27. Now Toyota's production capacity has been further reduced from 800000 to 750000 vehicles, calculated according to Toyota's initial production forecast of about 950000 in June. Toyota has lost a total of 200000 vehicles in three production cuts, compared with 830000 vehicles in the same period last year.

Under the influence of the environment, it has become the norm for Toyota to stop work and reduce production. Toyota has faced production cuts almost every month since March, mostly due to disruptions caused by shortages of semiconductors and raw materials caused by the epidemic. But Toyota is far from the only one plagued by this problem. in the Japanese camp, a number of car companies, including Honda, Nissan, Mazda and so on, have been greatly impacted in terms of production and market. and the production cuts of these car companies also directly lead to many problems in the production of independent products of most parts enterprises, such as automobile internal and external accessories, including the reduction of orders in this kind of parts enterprises, and employees have no work to do. Forced to have a temporary "holiday". According to relevant reports, the automobile industry accounts for 20% of Japan's manufacturing supply of basic industries, about 700000 people work in spare parts companies, long-term supply constraints have begun to have an impact on Japan's domestic employment environment.

On June 16, according to the Nikkei Chinese website, affected by the shortage of semiconductors and the logistics interruption caused by the previous closure measures in Shanghai, a number of Japanese automakers shut down production and reduced parts orders. Japan's large auto parts companies have to give their employees a temporary "holiday". The companies affected include Faltec, a car exterior parts company, Tachi-S, a large car seat maker, Marelli Holdings, which mainly produces parts related to the driver's seat, and Toyota Synthesis, which produces interior materials. For example, auto exterior parts company Faltec said that in addition to the design department, all employees in Japan (more than 800) will have a temporary "holiday" of about three days in June; Tachi-S, a large car seat manufacturer, also gives 50 employees of the main factory Hiraki factory (located in Hiraki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) a temporary "holiday" for 10 days. Both parts companies do a lot of business with Nissan and gave employees a temporary "holiday" in May, but extended the holiday in June because Nissan cut production for longer. In addition, the parts companies of Toyota Motor and Honda, which are Japanese car companies, also have the same problem. For example, Toyota Synthesis, which produces interior materials, will give all employees in Japan one day off in June. Wuyi Precision Industries, a large gear maker with which Honda has a lot of business, has also arranged three days off during the May-June working days.

To sum up, the reason for employees'"holiday" is that automakers have adjusted their production plans many times and ordered fewer parts than originally expected. Take Toyota as an example. Toyota initially expected a production capacity of 950000 in June. As Toyota was forced to cut production three times this month, Toyota's production capacity has been reduced from 950000 to 750000, with a cumulative production reduction of about 200000. In addition to Toyota, Nissan also adjusted its production plan, a large Japanese parts company executive said: "compared with the plan a month ago." Production has been greatly reduced.

At the same time, the suspension or reduction of production by Japanese car companies has also directly affected the sales of new cars in the global market. In the past May, a number of Japanese car companies showed a cliff decline in sales in Japan. Relevant data show that among the eight major Japanese brands, except Mitsubishi, sales of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Subaru, Mazda and Daifa all showed a year-on-year decline. Among them, Toyota sales fell 20.9% year-on-year to 86500 vehicles. Suzuki sales fell 10.9 per cent year-on-year to 6741; Subaru sales fell 27.5 per cent to 3480; Mazda sales fell 49.3 per cent to 3332; Lexus sales fell 30.8 per cent to 3103; and Dafa sales fell 30.1 per cent to 1812. In addition, the Chinese market, as an important source of sales for Japanese brands, also declined to a large extent. In May, Toyota's sales in China fell 12.1% from a year earlier to 148500 vehicles; Honda's sales in China fell 30.8% to 89000 vehicles; Nissan's sales in China fell 38.0% to 68800 vehicles; and Mazda's sales in China fell 43.8% to 8300 vehicles.

Toyota, Honda and other car companies have attributed the decline in sales to a shortage of semiconductors, logistics disruptions caused by previous Shanghai controls and Russian-Ukrainian geopolitics, difficulties in purchasing spare parts and stagnation in factory production lines. According to the current trend, due to the influence of the supply chain, the production capacity of Japanese car companies is still limited, and the capacity constraints have also had an impact on the relevant auto parts manufacturers, and the depressed new car sales of Japanese car companies have not been improved.
