Recently, the automotive industry has learned from the State Patent Office that Suzuki Co., Ltd. has declared a model S-CROSS in China, positioning the compact SUV. Judging from the patent map, the Suzuki S-CROSS can be seen as the successor to the SX4 S-CROSS (which was made in 2013 and is known as "Feng Control" in Chinese). It is understood that the new Suzuki S-CROSS will be officially released in November 2021 and will be produced by the Hungarian subsidiary Magyar Suzuki.

From the patent map, the new car basically continues the overall design of the overseas version of the model, the size of the forward gas grille is further enlarged, the interior is blackened by a mesh grille, a penetrating chrome-plated crossbar is added at the top to connect with the headlights, the shape of the headlight group of the new car is sharp, the interior uses matrix LED light source, the shape of the lower enclosure is more complex, and fog lights and steering auxiliary lights are equipped on both sides. The front radar probe is also integrated at the middle grid.

The side of the car body, the round waistline runs through the front and rear, the front and rear wheel eyebrows and the B / C column are fumigated. The rear part of the car echoes with the front face, and the taillights on both sides are slender in shape, which forms an integrated design with the black decorative strip in the middle after being blackened, with a large black surround and silver shield below. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car is 4300x1785lap1580 (1585) mm, the wheelbase is 2600mm, and the positioning compact SUV.

In terms of interior decoration, refer to the overseas version of the model, which is equipped with a three-format multi-function steering wheel, a 9-inch suspended central control screen, and adjusts the layout of multi-function buttons. In terms of configuration, the new car will be equipped with lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring system and so on. In terms of power, the new car is equipped with 1.4T and 48V light hybrid power system, maximum power 96kw, maximum torque 235N m, transmission matching 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission, high-end models will also provide AllGrip 4 × 4 drive system. It is understood that Toyota and Suzuki signed a cooperation intention in March 2019, Toyota will provide Suzuki with THS hybrid system technology, the new car is expected to carry the hybrid system.

Data show that in May 1993, Changan Automobile and Suzuki Co., Ltd. jointly formed Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd., launched Otto, Swift and other small cars, which are highly sought after by consumers and are known as the "king of cars." Data show that from 2008 to 2011, Changan Suzuki sales were 102500, 150100, 200000 and 220000 respectively.

However, when the domestic market began to launch larger car products, Suzuki did not follow up in time, and sales continued to decline since 2012, and eventually had no choice but to delist. In 2012, Changan Suzuki sales fell 26.42 per cent year-on-year to 170000 vehicles, according to the data. Since then, in addition to the year-on-year growth in 2014, Changan Suzuki sales have continued to decline. Overall sales of Changan Suzuki fell to 115300 in 2016, 83900 in 2017 and only 34500 in 2018.

In September 2018, due to continued losses in performance, Suzuki eventually transferred its 50% stake in Changan Suzuki to Changan Automobile at a symbolic price of 1 yuan, and Changan Suzuki changed from a joint venture company to a wholly owned subsidiary of Changan Automobile, marking Suzuki's official withdrawal from China. At present, Changan Suzuki no longer exists "Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd." was renamed "Chongqing Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd." in December 2020. However, since Suzuki's agreement with Changan will not end until 2022, Changan can still produce, sell and hang models with Suzuki logo. Of course, although the Suzuki brand has been temporarily retained, but its models can not be updated, and all meet the national five emission standards, basically completely suspended sales, Changan Suzuki official website has also been closed.

In fact, Suzuki tried to break the poor sales situation by launching a small SUV Vitra and Snapway, but Chinese consumers did not buy it, selling only about a thousand vehicles a month. Suzuki's domestic sales were losing ground a few years before it withdrew from China. In June 1995, Jiangxi Changhe Aviation Industry Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Co., Ltd., Suzuki Co., Ltd., a Sino-Japanese joint venture jointly invested by Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Industry Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd., was assigned to Changan Automobile Group in 2009 and acquired by BAIC in 2013. Frequent changes in equity is one of the important reasons for its poor development.

It is not clear whether Suzuki will return to China. If we return to China, it is not clear whether a joint venture or import will be adopted, but from the perspective of historical development, the joint venture between Changhe Suzuki and Changan Suzuki does not seem to be a good choice.

According to Suzuki's business plan, the Asian car market sales target for the 2025-2026 fiscal year is 2.5 million vehicles, while the 2.5 million target for the Asian market, including India, currently looks difficult to achieve. The sales target is based on the premise of the development of electric technology, and Suzuki will choose the electric product strategy if it returns to the Chinese market.
