In fact, Audi announced in 2021 that it would stop developing gasoline or diesel engines, and would completely switch to the research and production of electric vehicles in 10 to 15 years' time, accelerate the transition to electrification by 2033, phase out the production of internal combustion engines, and achieve zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. In addition, Audi also said it will invest 37 billion euros in vehicle projects over the next five years, of which about 18 billion euros (about 127.26 billion yuan) will be planned in the areas of electrification and hybrid. According to Audi's previously disclosed plans, Audi will launch more than 20 pure electric models in 2025. It is expected that China's high-end car market will grow to 5.8 million by 2030, of which the electric vehicle market will reach 3.1 million.

In the Chinese market, Audi is also accelerating the layout of electrification. On June 23, Audi China said that Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. would hold a groundbreaking ceremony in Changchun at the end of June. It is understood that the project has an investment of about 2.6 billion euros, and the new production base has a planned annual production capacity of 150000 vehicles, which is scheduled to be put into production by the end of 2024. According to the plan, Audi A6 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron series of three models will be the first to go into production. Since 2021, Audi has launched four all-electric models: Audi e-tron GT quattro, Audi RS e-tron GT, Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. However, its sales are not optimistic. According to relevant data, Audi sold 1316 electric vehicles from January to May, including e-tron 401, Q5 e-tron 159and Q2L e-tron 756.

When new energy vehicles become an inevitable trend, more and more brands have announced the timetable for stopping the sale of fuel vehicles. For example, on April 3 this year, BYD suddenly announced that it would stop the production of fuel vehicles. In addition, Volvo also said that it will be fully electric by 2025, with pure electric models accounting for 50% of total sales, only pure electric vehicles will be sold by 2030, and all models will be sold online only by 2040. Jaguar also announced that it will transform into a pure electric car brand in 2025, in which the replacement of Jaguar XJ will be electric, and a new entry-level pure electric will be developed to replace Jaguar Xe. By 2023, Jaguar XE and XF models will also be replaced by new pure electric, and the E-PACE and F-PACE fuel versions will be retired from history.

In addition, BAIC, Changan and Nissan all said they would stop selling fuel vehicles in 2025, while Mercedes-Benz and Honda stopped selling them in 2030 and 2040 respectively. Toyota said it planned to take the lead in stopping the sale of fuel vehicles in China, Europe and North America in 2030, BMW said it would stop selling fuel vehicles in 2030, and Volkswagen and Kia said they planned to stop selling fuel vehicles in 2035. GM, Ford, Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin and Maserati have also made it clear that they will stop selling fuel vehicles in the future.

Perhaps it is only a matter of time before automakers stop producing fuel vehicles amid increasingly stringent carbon regulations and global carbon neutralization targets. In June this year, the European Union passed a 2035 ban on the sale of fuel vehicles, which will stop the sale of new fuel vehicles in the European Union from 2035. With regard to the 2035 ban on the sale of fuel vehicles, Volkswagen called the new regulation "ambitious but achievable" and said it was "the only reasonable way to replace internal combustion engines ecologically, technically and economically".

Under the trend of globalization, the transformation from fuel vehicles to new energy vehicles has become an inevitable trend. The discontinued production of fuel-fueled vehicles does represent the inevitable trend of the transformation of the automobile industry, and represents that the products have entered a new period of development. However, in the current environment, the shortage of chips, the shortage of battery raw materials, the rise of raw materials and other reasons will also bring some pressure to the transformation of many car companies.
