According to the official announcement, Honda's cumulative sales in China from January to June this year were 679227, down 13.6% from the same period last year, mainly due to the epidemic and tight supply chain. Honda's sales in China fell 30.8% in May to 89000 vehicles from a year earlier, with Honda growing for the first time in four months in June.

Let's take a look at Nissan. Unlike Toyota and Honda, Nissan's sales in China include passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Nissan sold 109051 new cars in China in June, down 4.8 per cent from a year earlier and the fourth consecutive month of negative growth, according to data. Of this total, passenger vehicles rose 0.6 per cent to 91867, the first year-on-year increase in 14 months from April 2021, but commercial vehicles fell sharply, falling 26.1 per cent to 17184.

Finally, let's take a look at Mazda. Mazda sold 10145 new cars in China in June, down 40.3% from the same period last year, the largest decline among the four car companies. The decline may be related to the COVID-19 epidemic and the shortage of spare parts. It should be noted that this has been 15 consecutive months of negative growth in Mazda.

At present, Mazda (China) has not been officially released according to specific model data. According to Mazda's official website, Mazda was founded on January 30, 1920 and tried to enter the Chinese market after 1992. Currently, Mazda models sold in China include Anksella, Atez, CX-8, CX-5, CX-4 and CX-30/CX-30 EV, according to the monthly sales performance in the past. The main source of Mazda's sales in China is the Unksera model, while the rest of the car companies are very mediocre. According to Mazda's product plan, between 2022 and 2023, Mazda will launch a number of SUV products, including Mazda CX-50, Mazda CX-60, Mazda CX-70, Mazda CX-80 and Mazda CX-90. Starting from 2025, Mazda will launch a product line of EV dedicated platform and complete electrification of all models by 2030.

In addition to sales in China, according to the Nippon Keizai Shimbun, data released by the Japan Federation of Automobile sales Associations and the National Federation of Light Automobile Associations show that in June 2022, domestic new car sales (including light vehicles) were about 327900, down 10% from the same period last year. This is also the 12th consecutive month since July 2021 that new car sales in Japan have been lower than the same period last year. In addition, new car sales in Japan, including light vehicles, fell 5 per cent from a year earlier to about 2.0862 million between January and June this year, the lowest level since the first half of 2011 (about 1.919 million). Specifically, in June this year, Toyota's domestic sales in Japan fell 25% from a year earlier, while sales in Daifa Industries fell 18% from January to June. Toyota (excluding Lexus) sold about 638000 vehicles in Japan, down 19% from a year earlier. Subaru Japan sold about 46000 vehicles, down 21% from the same period last year.

As for the reasons for the decline in sales, "Automotive Industry concern" believes that Japanese car companies are mainly affected by multiple factors such as parts shortage and closure policy. under this background, the production capacity of Japanese car enterprises is continuously restricted by factors such as the shortage of automobile semiconductors, while the performance of Japanese car companies in the Chinese market has improved.

Take Toyota, for example, since the beginning of this year, Toyota has frequently encountered the problem of stopping production and reducing production. For example, in mid-June, Toyota initially expected a production capacity of 950000. Because Toyota was forced to cut production at three factories this month, Toyota's production capacity was reduced from 950000 to 750000, with a cumulative production reduction of about 200000 vehicles. The Chinese market has returned to normal since May. According to a Toyota insider in China, "Toyota's capacity constraints mainly occur in the Japanese local market, and the Chinese market is not affected much for the time being." This is also the main reason for Toyota's renewed growth.
