On July 31, DPCA released the latest data showing that 10636 new cars were delivered in July 2022, a positive increase for 20 consecutive months compared with the same period last year, and a total of 66395 vehicles were delivered from January to July in 2022, an increase of 39% over the same period last year. As for DPCA, it completed only 39 per cent of its annual sales of 170000 vehicles in 2022. According to the plan, DPCA needs to complete the remaining 61% in the next five months, which is a lot of difficulty for DPCA.
According to Automobile concern, Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd. was established on May 18, 1992, jointly funded by Dongfeng Motor and Peugeot Citroen Group, headquartered in Wuhan, Hubei Province. DPCA has two major brands: Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Citroen.
In October 2002, Dongfeng Motor Group signed an expanded cooperation with France's PSA Group (Peugeot Citroen Group), from which Dongfeng Peugeot was born. At present, Dongfeng Peugeot products on sale include Peugeot 408, Peugeot 508L, Peugeot 2008, Peugeot E2008, Peugeot 4008, Peugeot 5008 and so on. In May and June this year, for example, Dongfeng Peugeot sold 1486 and 1501 models, respectively; Peugeot 4008 sold 1227 and 1666 vehicles; Peugeot 2008 sold 1146 and 1173 vehicles. There are only a few thousand of the three models with high sales, and only a few hundred of the other models.
On February 25, 2021, Peugeot announced a global brand refurbishment and announced its 11th generation Lion LOGO. The new Peugeot 408 will be the first Dongfeng Peugeot model to use a new Lion in China. At present, the car has officially opened for pre-sale on July 27, and the new car will launch three models with an advance price range of 10.57-121700 yuan. As Dongfeng Peugeot's first model with the new lion logo, the new 408 model will determine the future development trend of the Peugeot brand in the Chinese market. According to the "New Lion Strategy" plan announced by Dongfeng Peugeot in the domestic market, Dongfeng Peugeot will accelerate the pace of new product launch and successively launch new 4008, new 5008, 2022 508L, 2008 THE ONE and other models in different market segments, while this new Peugeot 408 is the first Dongfeng Peugeot model to use a new lion in China.
Dongfeng Citroen is another brand of DPCA. Dongfeng Citroen is a large joint venture car manufacturing enterprise between Dongfeng Motor Company and PSA Group, one of the largest automobile companies in China, which was founded in 1992. Dongfeng Citroen's products on sale include Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS, new C3-XR, Versailles C5X, C6 and other models. Similarly, although Dongfeng Citroen has a large number of products, Versailles C5X is the only one with good sales performance. Sales of the Versailles C5X in May and June, for example, were 3307 and 3775, respectively, while sales of the rest of the models were dismal, such as the Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS in June, Citroen C6 and Citroen C3-XR.
As the first joint venture to enter the Chinese market, DPCA also had a brief highlight moment. Data show that DPCA's sales reached 704800 in 2015, but then fell directly off the altar, falling by 15.2% in 2016; sales rebounded in 2017, but still fell by 36.85%; and sales fell by 32.89% in 2018. By 2019 and 2020, sales fell by 55.17% and 55.74%, respectively, halving sales for two consecutive years. Fortunately, in the past 2021, DPCA has sold more than 100000 vehicles a year, but 100000 vehicles are still negligible compared to its sales record of 705000 in 2015.
Judging from the current market performance, the performance of DPCA in the market has indeed improved, but if it is subdivided into brand models, in fact, DPCA has only one popular model, Versailles C5X. According to statistics, as of June, Versailles C5X sold a total of 19682 vehicles this year, accounting for 29.6% of DPCA's total sales in the first seven months. However, it is not realistic for DPCA to rely solely on Versailles C5X, a popular model, to achieve its annual sales target of 170000 vehicles. This also means that DPCA needs to launch more popular products to help it achieve its annual sales target.
