In addition to the Japanese home market, the performance of Japanese car companies in the US market is not satisfactory. A number of Japanese car companies have announced the latest sales of new cars in the United States in July, Kyodo news agency reported. Data show that Japanese car companies sold a total of 313505 new cars in the United States in July, down 29.3 percent from a year earlier. Specific to the major car companies, including Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Subaru, sales in the United States are showing a double-digit decline. Of these, Honda's US sales fell 44.4 per cent year-on-year to 71235; Mazda fell 28.5 per cent to 23393; Toyota fell 21.2 per cent to 177341; and Subaru fell 17.1 per cent to 41536.

Judging from the sales performance of the four car companies in the United States, Honda's sales in the United States fell 44.4 percent to 71235 vehicles compared with the same period last year, the biggest decline among the four car companies. Honda's sales in the Chinese market are growing rapidly. Honda's terminal sales in China rose 123.5 per cent year-on-year to 133556 in July, according to official Honda figures.

Many car companies have attributed the decline in new car sales in Japan and the United States to supply constraints in supply chains such as a global shortage of semiconductors. According to AFS statistics, as of July 31, due to chip shortage and other factors, the global automobile market has reduced production by about 2.8102 million vehicles this year. AFS predicts that global carmakers will cut 3.6806 million vehicles by the end of the year due to lack of cores.

Of course, in addition to the influencing factors of chip shortage, the epidemic situation and difficulties in the supply of spare parts are also the main reasons for the decline in car sales caused by the stagnation of production by Japanese car companies. In fact, after entering 2022, Japanese car companies are still suffering from the problem of stopping or reducing production. Since the beginning of this year, including Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Nissan and other car companies have stopped or reduced production, while the negative impact of capacity constraints has led to a declining trend of new car sales.

The global sales of the Japanese system in the past six months as an example, in the first half of this year, the total global production of eight Japanese passenger car manufacturers, including Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Mazda, was 11.55 million vehicles, down 6% from the same period last year. Global sales were 11.63 million, down 11.4% from the same period last year, which is a year-on-year decline in the past two years. Specific to the major brands, there is also a downward trend, including Toyota's global sales down 6.1% to 4.69 million vehicles, Honda down 19.5% to 1.9 million vehicles, Nissan down 23.9% to 1.67 million vehicles, Mazda down 22.0%, Subaru down 19.3%, Suzuki up 2.0% to 1.46 million vehicles, and Mitsubishi Motors up 0.9%.

Previously, the Japanese Federation of Automobile sales Associations and the National Federation of Mini-vehicle Associations have pointed out that the shortage of semiconductors and the difficulties in purchasing parts caused by epidemic control have affected new car sales due to the stagnation of production by Japanese automakers. For now, Japanese car companies, including Honda and Toyota, have not yet got rid of the problem of factory shutdowns and production cuts, and new car sales are still unclear.
