As a new generation of model, the new Yaris Ativ uses the latest family design language, although the front face is still designed with upper and lower layered grille, but the size of the lower grille is obviously increased, the interior of the black intake grille is decorated with horizontal banners, and the sharp headlight groups of LED light sources on both sides are connected with the upper grille, equipped with newly designed front enclosure components, and bright black strips are added to the front lips for decoration. Combined with the air guide on both sides, the design has a full sense of movement.

From the side, the waistline of the new car extends from the front to the rear, using the very popular slip-back styling design. In the rear part, the shape of the slender LED taillight has been adjusted, and the duckling tail spoiler has a full sense of motion with the rear enclosure designed with an air guide. In addition, the new Yaris Ativ can also be equipped with a fixed spoiler and a bright black rear lip assembly to make the overall visual feel more combat. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4425/1740/1480mm and wheelbase 2620mm respectively.

In terms of interior decoration, the new car uses black + purple color matching and uses a lot of soft materials to cover, the whole center console uses straight lines to widen the horizontal visual effect, the new car is equipped with 7-inch LCD instrument and 9-inch central control screen and supports Toyota Safety Sense driving assistance system with adaptive range, blind spot monitoring and other functions. Toyota Yaris Ativ locates a small hatchback, corresponding to FAW Toyota Weichi and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota to enjoy respectively. Weichi's relationship with China is self-evident. It is Toyota's first car produced in China, with the internal code name "Toyota 1". In 2002, the first generation of Weichi was officially born, named VIOS in English, which was produced and sold by Tianjin FAW Toyota. It was improved on the basis of Toyota Platz (Xiali 2000). In terms of power, the first generation of Weichi is equipped with 1.3L 8A-FE and 1.5L 5A-FE engines, of which 1.3L engine maximum power 64kW 1.5L engine maximum power 68kW.

On February 28, 2008, the second generation of Weichi officially went on the market, with a price of 9.5-127000 yuan. As a new generation of models, Wechi has completely got rid of the shadow of the first generation, with an all-round increase in body size and a power supply of 1.3L and 1.6L engines for consumers to choose from, of which 1.3L engine has the maximum power of 63kwt and 1.6L engine 87kw, which is the same as the Toyota Corolla.

On November 6, 2013, FAW Toyota's new Wechi officially went on sale, with a price of 6.98-112800 yuan. In terms of appearance, the new Weichi front face adopts the family design concept of Keen Look, the headlamp is connected to the upper grille chrome-plated strip, and the lower grille is designed with trapezoidal shape. In terms of power, the new car offers 1.3L and 1.5L engines with maximum power of 73kw and 79kw, respectively. On November 20, 2013, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota YARiS L officially launched, and the new car can be regarded as a sister model of FAW Toyota Weichi, with a price of 6.98-108800 yuan. Although it is a sister model, Zhixuan is obviously different from Weiqi and overseas models in appearance, and the thousands of cars have become more athletic after redesign.

On September 28, 2016, the new Wechi went on sale at a price of 6.98-113800. The new Wechi mainly adjusts its appearance, uses Toyota's latest family-style design, and retains 1.3L and 1.5L engines for power. On August 11, 2016, the new YARiS L officially went on sale at a price of 6.98-104800 yuan, which is also quite different from that of Wechi. The new car continues the shape of the European version of YARIS, using the "X" style front face design, the overall styling style is very unique.

On March 21, 2017, FAW Toyota Wechi FS officially went on sale at a price of 6.98-109800 yuan, a hatchback version. On March 9, 2017, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota YARiS L was officially launched, based on the same platform of Wechi, as a YARiS L hatchback version.

The launch of the new Toyota Yaris Ativ, the follow-up may launch a hatchback version, and continue to introduce domestic sales. As for power, it is expected that domestic models will continue to use 1.5L self-priming engine, with 5MT or CVT gearbox, enough to meet daily needs.

In terms of sales volume, the cumulative sales of Wechi / Wechi FS from January to July in 2022 were 27902 and that of Guangzhou Automobile and Toyota were 43659. In other words, Toyota sold 71561 small cars in China. By comparison, with cumulative Honda Feido / Honda Life sales of 48293 and Volkswagen's Polo of 12174, Toyota seems to be doing well in the small car market.
