Research shows that due to an increase in complaints caused by design defects, the quality performance of China's new cars declined slightly in 2022, and the overall quality performance fell behind that of last year.

The research shows that the number of new car quality problems in China in 2022 is 213 PP100, an increase of 2.8 PP100 over 2021. The increase mainly comes from design defects, such as driving experience, powertrain and body appearance. The study also found that infotainment systems, driving assistance and air conditioning were the most improved among quality complaints compared with last year.

The ranking shows that the quality of new cars of luxury brands averaged 192 PP100 in 2022, of which Porsche ranked first in luxury brand quality with 163PP100, down from 1999PP100 in 2021, followed by Lexus, which ranked second with 166PP100, while Lexus did not even make it into the list in 2021. In third place is Land Rover, which leads Audi and Cadillac with 179 PP100.

In terms of mainstream car brands, Guangzhou Auto Honda still ranks first in mainstream car brand quality with a score of 193 PP100, and is the only brand with less than 200 PP100, while Guangzhou Auto Fick Jeep, which ranked second in 2021, may not appear on the list because the brand is about to be delisted and is replaced by Dongfeng Honda. Buick ranks third, with 207PP100, just two more than Dongfeng Honda. In addition, some brother brands also have a big gap. For example, SAIC-Volkswagen ranked eighth, while FAW-Volkswagen did not even get into the list. As part of General Motors, Buick ranked third, while Chevrolet ranked 13th.

In terms of own brands, the average quality of new cars in 2022 is 225 PP100, compared with 213 PP100 in 2021. In terms of specific brands, Changan, Chery and GAC MOTOR are in the top three, of which Chery and GAC MOTOR all have 215 PP100, including Geely, Dongfeng scenery, LinkedIn, Tank, Shortcut and other six brands are above the passing line. However, BYD, whose sales soared during the year, also did not appear on the list.

In recent years, independent brands have significantly improved their product strength, such as modeling, design, technology and configuration, as well as reliability, after-sales, word-of-mouth and other comprehensive strength, and have been favored by many consumers. it has a certain impact on the luxury car market and the joint venture market. However, it is not difficult to see from the list that there is still a certain gap between independent brands and joint venture brands, including Guangzhou Auto Honda, Dongfeng Honda, Buick and other joint venture brands, while the performance of independent brands is significantly lower than that of joint venture brands, indicating that under the tide of automotive automation and intelligence, joint venture brands still have certain development advantages, and independent brands have a long way to go to improve their quality.
