AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/13 Report--
According to the US Automotive News Network, Japanese giant Toyota Motor fuel pump recall has ushered in new progress! Toyota has filed a preliminary settlement agreement in federal court in Brooklyn, with a settlement of up to $150 million (about 1.04 billion yuan), which still needs to be approved by a judge.
Reported that the high-price settlement agreement to resolve a class action, the class action related to a recall involving Toyota and Lexus 3.36 million vehicles. The problem with the recalled vehicle is a defective fuel pump, which may cause the engine to stall. The report pointed out that some car owners had previously said that the defect caused the vehicle to bump and the engine lost power and broke down, especially at low speed. Toyota has previously said the problem is more frequent in the warmer southern part of the United States.
According to the settlement agreement, Toyota extended the fuel pump warranty to 15 years or 150000 miles (241000 km), whichever comes first. At the same time, Toyota will also provide car owners with free spare and trailer options for maintenance, while previous repairs involving models, including temporary car rentals and trailers, will be compensated accordingly. However, according to the published agreement, the agreement is only for the US market.
It is understood that the models affected by fuel pump defects include dozens of Toyota and Lexus models with Denso low-pressure fuel pumps produced from 2013 to 2020, involving a wide range of models, including best-selling cars such as Lexus LS 460and Toyota RAV4. According to statistics, between 2020 and 2021, more than 5.8 million vehicles worldwide were recalled because of the defect, of which 3.36 million were in the United States.
In addition, it was reported that Denso International, a subsidiary of Toyota, was also one of the defendants affected by fuel pump defects, which agreed to settle but did not admit wrongdoing. Toyota said: "We are very happy to settle the lawsuit with the car owners in this way, and the settlement agreement further shows that Toyota is committed to bringing a better user experience to car owners." DeMiles Dee Miles, a lawyer representing the plaintiff at Beasley Allen, the law firm Beasley Allen, said the solution provided "comprehensive compensation" to car owners. "relevant experts are still analyzing the value of this settlement, but according to preliminary estimates, we expect the settlement to exceed $150 million," it said in an email. " In addition, in the process of reaching a settlement, the plaintiff may pay up to $28.5 million in legal fees to its law firm.
According to reports, on October 28, 2020, Toyota announced a recall of 2.66 million defective fuel pump models, including Japan, the United States, Europe and other parts of the world. The reason for the recall is that there are problems with fuel pumps produced by Denso delivered in March 2020. The models involved include 42 models, including NOAH and AVALON, with as many as 1.52 million in North America and about 400000 in China, while Japan's Toyota filed a recall of 210000 vehicles from brands such as Noah and Elfa to the Ministry of Land and Transport.
