According to BMW's official website, BMW China recently withdrew its sales of imported BMW X5 models, leaving only domestic BMW X5 models, which means that the imported BMW X5 will officially withdraw from the Chinese market and complete the switch from import to domestic. According to the official website, the domestic BMW X5 currently offers four models for sale, with 2.0T and 3.0T engines available, with the 2.0T version in the price range of 60.5-635000 yuan and the 3.0T version in the price range of 70.5-775000 yuan.

No Land Rover, no BMW X5. In 1994, BMW acquired the British Rover Motor Company, followed by Rover, MINI, Land Rover, Mingjue and other brands owned by BMW. Not long after BMW acquired Rover, the price of sterling soared by 50%, making it more expensive for BMW to invest in Rover. BMW eventually sold Rover and Mingjue, and sold Land Rover to Ford in 2003, leaving only MINI.

After BMW acquired Rover, the relevant technology of Land Rover was introduced and used by BMW, while the BMW X5 was officially based on the technology sharing of the range Rover L322. BMW launched the first generation of BMW X5 models in 1999. At the end of the first generation of models, the BMW X5 began to be introduced to China on a large scale.

The first-generation BMW X5 was a great success after its launch, and the second-generation model was not launched until 2006. In July 2007, BMW China announced the official listing of the second generation BMW X5 with market guidance prices of 1.336 million yuan and 895000 yuan respectively. Compared with the first-generation model, the shape of the second-generation BMW X5 has not undergone major changes, but its size has been further increased and more luxurious interiors have been added.

After the development of two generations of models, BMW found that some of the second-generation models have been unable to keep up with the market, but also because all BMW models have been replaced one after another, and adopted a new family-style design. The third-generation BMW X5 went on sale in February 2014 with a price range of 87.7-1.773 million yuan. The xDrive30d is the first diesel version of BMW to be officially introduced to the Chinese mainland market. Compared with the second-generation models, the third-generation BMW X5 has not only changed in appearance and interior, but also upgraded in power system, chassis, suspension and so on.

Skip the mid-term change and replace the BMW X5 directly. In July 2018, the fourth-generation BMW X5 officially went on sale with a price range of 80.99-909900 yuan. It is understood that the new car is based on the CLAR platform, using a new design language, the double kidney forward air grille is further enlarged, the lower air intake and the heat dissipation ports on both sides are more exaggerated, and the body size is also increased again. On the other hand, the N55 engine, which has been used since the second generation, is replaced by the brand-new B58 series 3.0T in-line six-cylinder engine, and the third-generation 2.0T engine has been retained.

The main competitors of the BMW X5 are Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7, and the performance of the BMW X5 in the domestic market is significantly better than that of similar models. According to the data, the number of insured BMW X5 imports in 2021 was 50712, up 3.46% from the same period last year, while Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 were 47786 and 16327 respectively, up 32.15% and 60.29% respectively. Judging from the data, although Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 are growing significantly faster than BMW X5, their sales are much lower than BMW X5.

Based on the needs of domestic consumers, the BMW Group officially launched the domestic BMW X5 on March 31. The biggest difference between the domestic BMW X5 and the imported BMW X5 is that it is lengthened on the basis of imported models, the length, width and height are 5060/2004/1779mm, wheelbase 3105mm respectively. As a reference, the imported BMW X5 is 4930/2004/1776mm in length, width and height and 2975mm in wheelbase. Brilliance BMW X5 also surpasses the competitive Mercedes-Benz GLE from body length and wheelbase, and its wheelbase even reaches the level of imported BMW X7. On the power side, the xDrive30Li carries a 2.0T four-cylinder engine (B48B20G), produced by brilliance BMW, with a maximum power of 272 horsepower. The xDrive40Li carries a 3.0T in-line six-cylinder engine (B58B30C) and is produced by BMW AG with a maximum power of 370hp. In terms of transmission system, they all match 8-speed manual self-integrated gearbox.

BMW China canceled the sale of imported BMW X5 models based on the current situation of domestic BMW X5. According to the number of new car compulsory insurance purchases, the domestic BMW X5 sold 138,3389, 4237, 5006 and 8029 vehicles respectively from April to August in 2022, with a cumulative sales of 20796 vehicles, while the imported BMW X5 sold 1432 vehicles, 563,822,328,187 vehicles in the same period, and 13343 vehicles from January to August. It is not difficult to see from the data that the sales of the domestic BMW X5 basically increased steadily after the listing, while the domestic BMW X5 grew while the sales of the imported BMW X5 showed a decline. In this context, the cancellation of the sales of imported models is also for the better development of domestic models.

At present, domestic medium and large SUV is still in the blue ocean, and more and more car companies begin to lay out this market. In the short term, as a first-tier luxury brand, the BMW X5 should have no competitors for the time being, and it is possible to sell ten thousand vehicles a month. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Federation of passengers, has said that the hot sale of the BMW X5 is expected to further speed up Mercedes-Benz and Audi's domestic models of the same class. Previously, the Audi Q6, which SAIC Audi has just opened for pre-sale, can also be seen as a competitor to the BMW X5, but the BMW X5 is hotter by comparison.
