AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/23 Report--

On September 22nd, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an announcement: Tesla recalled 1096762 US cars, involving some 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2021 Model Y, 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles. The report said that during the product test in August, Tesla's employees found that there was something wrong with the window automatic lifting system. After a large number of additional tests, Tesla determined that the vehicle performance did not meet the requirements of the automatic window lifting system.

NHTSA said that these vehicles do not meet the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standards for electric windows, and that window closures without a proper automatic reversal system may increase the risk of injury by squeezing drivers or passengers before being retracted.

Tesla said that no warranty claims, car accidents, injuries or death reports related to the recall have been found and that the vehicle will be updated through OTA to meet the electric window operation setting requirements. Tesla CEO Musk said on Twitter that calling it a "recall" was "outdated-inaccurate" and that it was "a small wireless software update". As of Sept. 19, Tesla cars that had been delivered and were in production had obtained the software to recalibrate the automatic window reversal system, and the new car should not have this problem.

It is understood that this is the largest recall in Tesla's history. According to the data, Tesla's sales in the United States in 2021 were second only to BMW and Lexus, with a total sales of 313400 vehicles, making it the second largest high-end car brand, with the latter two selling 336600 and 304500 respectively in the United States. Tesla has occupied the first place in the US high-end car market for three years in a row. On this basis, Tesla's recall is equivalent to three times its sales in the past year.

While sales are growing, Tesla's product recalls are also increasing. In May this year, Tesla announced a recall of some domestic Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles with production dates from October 19, 2021 to April 26, 2022, totaling 107293. According to the announcement, in some vehicles within the scope of this recall, when preparing for DC fast charging or during DC fast charging, the CPU of the infotainment system may not be cooled enough. as a result, the running speed of the CPU slows down and the display of the central touch screen is slow, and in serious cases, the CPU may restart, causing the display screen to fail to display. When the above faults occur, the reversing image, windshield (defrosting, defog and wiper) function settings, driving gear display and indicator lights will not be used normally, in extreme cases, it will increase the risk of vehicle collision accidents, and there are hidden dangers.

"Automotive Industry concern" learned from the circle of friends that there has not been any feedback from car owners on the problem of window lifting, and it is not clear whether the recall measure will affect the Chinese market.
