According to the online car market, CX-90 will be introduced into domestic production by Changan Mazda. According to the plan, Mazda will launch CX-50, CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, CX-90 and other models before the end of 2023. CX-90 is the largest model in the Mazda CX series, which is based on the vertical rear drive platform and equipped with in-line six-cylinder engine. It is expected to be officially released in the North American market by the end of 2022 or early 2023, and the follow-up will be introduced by Changan Mazda. The competition includes Ford explorer, Chevrolet trailblazer, Volkswagen Tuen, Buick Anke flag and other models.

CX-90 will be the successor to CX-9, which has been sold by Mazda for two generations since 2006. Not long ago, Mazda launched 2023 CX-9 models in the North American market. As an annual change, its appearance basically continues the cash style, while CX-90, which will be released in early 2023, will be its successor. In the North American market, it may continue to be named "CX-9", but in other markets, including China, it may adopt the name "CX-90". It is understood that as early as July 2019, Mazda has registered the "CX-90" trademark in China.

According to the road test spy photos released by foreign media, CX-90 adopts a brand-new appearance design, its front face is replaced with a large-size air intake grille, the interior is blackened vertical lattice modeling design, and the periphery of the grille is covered with chrome-plated decorative strips, the shape of the LED headlamp group on both sides is also consistent with the CX-60 model, the fog lamp area on both sides has done the air guide design, and the bottom is a trapezoidal heat dissipation hole with blackening decorations, full of sports.

On the side of the body, the overall outline looks very full, the waistline design of the body is also very strong, the roof shows a slip-back styling design, the side window is covered with chrome strips, and the front and rear wheel arches protrude outward, creating a wide-body visual effect. The rear part of the car is still the family design language of Mazda, the shape of the taillight group echoes that of the headlight group, and the bottom is equipped with a guard plate shape and a total of four bilateral sports exhaust to enhance the sense of movement. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the CX-90 are 5069/1936/1728mm, the wheelbase is 2930mm, and the positioning is medium and large SUV.

On the power side, CX-90 shares the company's new front engine rear wheel drive platform with CX-60. The CX-60 is the brand's first model with a plug-in hybrid system, and Mazda may offer two CX-90 hybrids: a mild hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. Among them, the light hybrid version uses a brand new 3.0L Skyactiv-X turbocharged in-line six-cylinder gas engine, motor (ISG) and 48 volt battery pack. The plug-in hybrid may use a 2.5L eSkyactiv naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, but has a more powerful motor and a 355V lithium-ion battery pack.

In the domestic market, the original Mazda CX-9 was sold in China through import channels in 2012, when it was priced at 439000 yuan. The second generation CX-9 did not enter China, but Changan Mazda introduced the smaller CX-8 into China, with a price of 25.88-330800 yuan. From the network inquiry to the news, some parallel import car dealers introduced a small amount of the Canadian version of the second-generation CX-9, the domestic price is between 35-480000 yuan. Taken together, if CX-90 is introduced into domestic production, it is expected that the starting price may be between 28 and 300000 yuan.

In August 2021, FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda merged to become (new) Changan Mazda. According to the official website of Changan Mazda, the models currently on sale include Unksera, Atez, CX-30/CX-30 EV, CX-4, CX-5, CX-8 and other models, of which more than 70% come from Onksera. In August sales, for example, Onksera sold 3131 vehicles, while CX-5, CX-30 and CX-8 sold 1497.

In 2017, Mazda China achieved an annual sales record of 309400 vehicles, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year, and sold 300000 units annually for the first time since Mazda started its business in the Chinese market. However, as Mazda stopped producing CX-7, Mazda 6, Mazda 8 and other models in China, Mazda's sales in China continued to decline. From 2018 to 2021, Mazda's sales in China were 272322, 24492, 214574 and 183953 respectively, a decline of more than 40 per cent in five years. After entering 2022, Mazda China no longer disclosed specific sales.

Mazda has not imported products from China for many years and seems to be less and less concerned about the Chinese market. According to the plan, Mazda will launch four models, namely CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90, between 2022 and 2023. However, in this product plan aimed at improving the overall brand image and making higher profits, Mazda made no mention of the Chinese market.
