On September 30, rumors emerged online that Tesla's domestic cars will be significantly reduced in price. The news said that Tesla's domestic models Model 3 and Model Y will be significantly reduced in price, among which the price reduction of Model Y is as high as 40,000 yuan. Finally, the starting price of the rear-wheel drive version of Model Y may drop to 270,000 - 290,000 yuan. But it didn't take long for Tesla to clarify that the news was false. In response to rumors that domestic models will be significantly reduced, Tesla responded by saying: "The news is not true."

On October 1st, Tesla raised the "price butcher knife" again. Tesla announced on its official Weibo account that it would launch another insurance subsidy campaign. Tesla's official posters show that owners of Model 3 and Model Y models ordered and delivered between October 1 and December 31,2022 (only for unlicensed vehicles) can enjoy an insurance subsidy of 7000 yuan if they choose to purchase insurance through Tesla's cooperative insurance agency. In other words, Tesla's insurance subsidy activity will continue until the end of the year.

In September, Tesla launched a similar campaign. According to Tesla's internal e-mail, owners of domestic Tesla Model 3 and Model Y delivered between September 16 and September 30,2022 can enjoy an insurance subsidy of 8000 yuan if they choose to purchase Tesla in-store insurance, and the insurance includes compulsory insurance and vehicle damage insurance. The insurance subsidy is in the form of directly reducing the vehicle price of 8000 yuan when paying the final payment. The insurance subsidy policy covers domestic brand-new models. In addition, exhibition vehicles and non-brand-new vehicles (without official license plates) can also enjoy this preferential policy. Tesla officially confirmed the news. However, Tesla was questioned as a "disguised price cut" after the preferential policy came out, which also caused dissatisfaction among some car owners.

Tesla's "price cuts" are not groundless. In July, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to fans 'questions on social platforms,"Does Tesla have plans to lower prices in response to the epidemic and supply chain woes?" The question states: "Tesla can lower the price of its models if current inflation abates." In the second quarter earnings call, Musk also said: "After raising the price several times, Tesla car prices have reached a relatively embarrassing level." Tesla may cut prices at some point in the future, but that's not a promise."

In response to the listing "disguised price reduction" argument, Tesla a store sales to the media said that the main reason for subsidies is to deal with the backlog of vehicle inventory, so before September 30, there will be 8000 yuan subsidies for car purchases. The sales said that the backlog of existing car inventory has been sold out, in short, Tesla launched more offers to sprint end-of-month delivery.

According to Tesla's official website in China, Tesla currently has two domestic models, Model 3 and Model Y, among which Tesla Model 3 rear-wheel drive version sells for 279,900 yuan, high-performance version sells for 367,900 yuan;Model Y rear-wheel drive version sells for 316,900 yuan, long-life version sells for 394,900 yuan, and high-performance version sells for 417,900 yuan.

With the upgrading of Tesla's production line in Shanghai, the production capacity has been increased. After upgrading, its annual production capacity has been increased from 450,000 to 750,000, thus greatly shortening the delivery cycle of Tesla models in China. According to the delivery date published on the official website, the shortest expected delivery time of all models of Model 3 and Model Y has been shortened at present, among which the expected delivery period of domestic Model 3 rear-wheel drive version and high-performance version is 4-8 weeks; while the expected delivery period of domestic Model Y rear-wheel drive version is 1-4 weeks, and the delivery period of Model Y long-endurance version and Model Y high-performance version is 4-8 weeks.

Tesla sales in China fell to 254,700 vehicles in the second quarter of this year from 310,000 in the first quarter, with Tesla delivering 76965 new vehicles in China and 34502 in the domestic market in mid-August, according to the association. In terms of specific models, the Model 3 has only 3847 vehicles at risk, making it the only model in the top 15 list of new energy sales that declined year-on-year. As for whether Tesla China can boost its delivery volume in the fourth quarter after launching the 7000 yuan insurance subsidy promotion campaign, it remains to be verified whether it can make the annual performance report look better.
