AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/04 Report--
California has banned all new gasoline car sales from 2035. Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, however, said it would be difficult to implement the plan. In an interview with the media, he said: California's plan to ban the sale of fuel vehicles in 2035 will be quite difficult, he also pointed out that it will be very difficult for only 50% of new car sales in the United States to be zero-emission vehicles by 2030, and suggested not to limit the types of vehicles people buy.
Toyota has markets in more than 200 countries around the world and must take into account the needs of different markets, Mr. Toyoda said. At present, there are about 1 billion consumers in the world who do not have access to very convenient charging facilities, which obviously affects the market for electric vehicles. It said the lack of adequate infrastructure would hinder the popularity of electric vehicles, which is one of the reasons Toyota chose not to invest in electric vehicles.
As we all know, Akio Toyoda's attitude towards electric cars has not been very cold. Earlier, the Japanese government made a plan to ban the sale of fuel vehicles in 2035. Akio Toyoda once said that electric vehicles were suspected of being over-hyped. In his view,"pure electric vehicles are not the only way out for the automobile industry". As long as energy conservation and emission reduction can be achieved, hybrid vehicles should also be promoted. It is not wise to blindly promote pure electric vehicles and ban models using internal combustion engines, including hybrid electric vehicles. On the contrary, he encourages diversified solutions. For example, hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are advocated instead of pure electric vehicles.
However, in the context of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, Toyota has to speed up the launch of new energy vehicles to keep up with the trend of the times. As early as December 14,2021, Toyota launched 15 new all-electric vehicles at a global electric vehicle strategy conference. It also announced that it would invest 35 billion US dollars in the research and development of electric vehicles, and proposed a plan to achieve annual sales of 3.5 million electric vehicles by 2030, and 30 pure electric vehicles will be launched by 2030. In the Chinese market, Toyota and Lexus will introduce 35 new electric products in 2025, including 10 pure electric vehicles. By 2035, Lexus will only sell electric vehicles and fully transform into pure electric brands.
In an interview with the media recently, Akio Toyoda also said that although Toyota will launch more electric vehicles in the next few years, it will also launch a series of other new products, including hybrid vehicles, hydrogen vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles. It points out that it will take longer than expected for electric vehicles to become widespread. Akio Toyoda's argument does have some truth. The automobile itself is a complex industrial product with a long R & D cycle and life cycle. It is impossible to transform to a pure electric vehicle in an all-round way.
Although the penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to rise, the penetration rate of infrastructure is also accelerating. However, compared with the sales data of new energy vehicles, it obviously needs to be improved. According to relevant data, in 2021, the ratio of electric vehicles to charging piles in the United States is 18.2: 1, and there is still much room for development in the electric vehicle charging pile market in the United States. From the perspective of infrastructure facilities, it is not easy to ban fires. Moreover, the rapid growth of trams will also face a huge test in terms of power grids.
