In 2009, Geely released the Emgrand brand. The first model, Emgrand EC718, was officially launched on August 28,2009, with a price range of 828 - 111,800 yuan. In terms of power, Emgrand EC718 is equipped with 1.8L engine, maximum power 138 horsepower, maximum torque 172Nm, all equipped with 5-speed manual transmission. That is to say, Emgrand was originally a sub-brand of Geely Automobile, and Emgrand EC718 was the first model of Emgrand brand and the first generation model of Emgrand currently on sale.

In April 2014, Geely released a new brand structure. The original three sub-brands (Emgrand/Global Eagle/England) were unified as Geely brand, and new products were launched as Geely brand series, and a unified new logo was hung. At this point, Emgrand is no longer a Geely brand, but a Geely series model. On July 26,2014, Geely's new Dihao was officially launched. The new car was available as a hatchback car and a three-compartment car. The price range was 69,800 - 110,800 yuan. In terms of power, the 1.8L engine carried by the Emgrand EC7 was cancelled and replaced by a 1.3T engine with a maximum power of 133 hp and a peak torque of 185 N·m, matched by a 6MT or CVT gearbox. Later, the Emgrand series of products continued to expand. For example, the Dihao RS, which is based on the Dihao hatchback, was officially launched on August 2,2015 at a price of 768 - 94,800 yuan. On May 4,2016, Dihao GS was officially launched with a price range of 778 - 108,800 yuan. The new car can be regarded as a production version of Geely Dihao Cross concept car, focusing on compact SUV with cross-border style. On September 20,2016, Dihao GL was officially listed with a price range of 788 - 113,800 yuan.

On March 6,2018, the new Dihao was officially listed, with a guidance price range of 698 - 98,800 yuan. Although the new Emgrand continues to use a patterned air intake grille, compared to the current model, which focuses on highlighting the visual width, the car is equipped with a brand-new LED headlight set, and the new taillights are connected by a central chrome trim strip. In the power section, the new car is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, matching a 5-speed manual and CVT gearbox.

On August 28,2021, the fourth generation of Dihao was officially listed, with a price range of 699 - 88,900 yuan. As a replacement model, the brand-new Emgrand has been greatly adjusted in appearance and interior. The new car adopts a brand-new design style. The front air intake grille adopts hexagonal shield design. The straight waterfall grille is similar to Geely Star Rui. The center adopts Geely black label. The external outline of the headlight is similar to Star Rui, but the internal structure is different. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4638/1820/1460mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2650mm, among which the width is increased compared with that of the current model.

In terms of interior, the new car is equipped with 12.3-inch digital dashboard, 10.25-inch floating central touch screen, coherent integrated air outlet, etc. At the same time, the air conditioning control area also retains physical buttons to ensure ease of operation, and the new style of D-type multifunctional steering wheel also adds a lot of features to the interior.

In terms of power, the brand-new Dihao is a new model based on BMA platform, equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with model JLy-4G 15B, maximum power 84kW, peak torque 147N·m, matched with CVT gearbox. In contrast, the current model is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine of model JLy-4G15, with a maximum power of 80kW and a peak torque of 142N·m, matched with a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT gearbox.

At present, Emgrand is the lowest selling product under Geely brand. In terms of horizontal comparison, its competing models include both domestic brands such as Chang 'an Yidong (729 - 103,900 yuan), Roewe i5 (679 - 99,900 yuan), Mingjue 5 (679 - 99,900 yuan), Chery Arize 5 (599 - 85,800 yuan), etc., also including joint venture brands such as Nissan Sylphy (998 - 174,900 yuan), Buick Yinglang (1199 - 125,900 yuan), Chevrolet Cruze (949 - 122,900 yuan), etc. According to the data, from January to August 2022, the cumulative sales volume of Dihao was 88,500 vehicles, down 9.67% year-on-year.
