At present, some European websites of NIO Automobile have officially renamed the ES7 model listed in the Chinese market as EL7. The reason for the renaming is either affected by Audi's previous lawsuit against NIO ES series. Up to now, NIO officials have not disclosed the specific reasons for the renaming.

In June this year, according to German "Handelsblatt" and other media reports, Volkswagen's Audi brand has filed a lawsuit in Munich court accusing NIO of infringing Audi's trademark rights. Audi said that the naming of the ES6 and ES8 models infringed on the trademark rights of the Audi S6 and S8 models. In response, an Audi spokesman confirmed the lawsuit at the time, while a NIO spokesman said he would not comment on the ongoing lawsuit. Audi China later responded to the media that Audi headquarters believed that the name of the model selected by the company in the European market infringed the trademark rights of the Audi brand in Europe, which remains to be clarified at the legal level. the case is pending.

The ES7 model was renamed EL7 or affected by the above incident. Although the previously sued model was not ES7, considering that the naming strategy of the above models is consistent, industry insiders say Wei Lai adjusted the naming or in order to avoid unnecessary disputes in Europe again. According to Sina Finance and Economics, Wei Lai said that since the beginning of the company's establishment, Wei Lai has insisted on originality and systematically thought about the naming of models. Since 2016, it has started to apply for global registration and obtained successful registration in most markets such as China, Europe and the United States. Unfortunately, Audi challenged the NIO ES8/ES6 model name and initiated a lawsuit in Germany. In view of the possible protracted litigation, in order to avoid affecting the interests of European users, Wei Lai decided to use the EL7 model name in Europe for the time being. NIO will continue to respond to trademark lawsuits that are still ongoing in Germany.

In the domestic market, NIO Automobile is the automobile enterprise with the most product planning among the new automobile enterprises. At present, NIO has six models: ES8, ES6, EC6, ET7, ET5 and ES7. Among them, NIO ES6 and ES8 have been on the market for four years. ES8 is the first model of NIO Automobile, which was launched in December 2017 and currently sells for 496,000 - 656,000 yuan;ES6 is the second mass production model of NIO Automobile, which was launched in December 2018 and currently sells for 386,000 - 554,000 yuan; ES7 is the fifth mass production model of NIO Automobile, which was officially delivered on August 28 this year. The price range is 468,000 - 548,000 yuan. ES7 is positioned as a large five-seat pure electric SUV, between ES6 and ES8. It is built on the NT2.0 platform of NIO. The intelligent level is consistent with ET5 and ET7, mainly filling the market gap of no five-seat model of NIO ES8.

According to reports, in NIO automobile products,"E" stands for "electric","S" stands for "SUV", and the number represents the performance level. Audi's S6 and S8 models do not have corresponding ES6 and ES8 versions, only RS6 and RS8.

On October 6, NIO announced that the European launch conference of "NIO Berlin" will be held in Berlin, Germany at 0:00 on October 8, Beijing time, when NIO will announce its entry into the German, Dutch, Danish and Swedish markets and release three new cars, ET7, ET5 and EL7.
