It is decided to recall a total of 4720 vehicles from September 30, 2022.

The recalled vehicles include: first, Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.: recall some 2020 imported XC90 vehicles produced from June 4, 2019 to March 8, 2021, a total of 1379 vehicles; second, Daqing Volvo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd.: recall some 2020 domestic S60 vehicles produced from May 15, 2019 to September 1, 2020, a total of 294 vehicles Part of the 2020, 2021 domestic S90 long wheelbase cars produced from March 28, 2019 to October 8, 2020, a total of 2109; 3. Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd.: recall a total of 2020 domestic XC60 vehicles produced from February 25, 2019 to September 24, 2020.

According to the announcement at that time, the reason for the recall was that some plug-in hybrid vehicles had internal short circuits in the battery module cells within the scope of the recall, and the battery module might overheat when the power battery was in a high-energy state, which in extreme cases led to thermal runaway of the power battery and safety risks.

In response to the recalled vehicles, Volvo Chinese officials said that starting from September 30, 2022, vehicles in the recall area will be temporarily upgraded with free software to reduce the risk of thermal runaway. At the same time, starting from May 1, 2023, all power battery modules will be replaced free of charge for vehicles within the recall to eliminate safety risks. In addition, Volvo recommends that users avoid plugging in the vehicle before downloading the software. At the same time, users should contact Volvo authorized dealers as soon as possible to carry out software upgrades.

Volvo Chinese officials said that the recalled vehicles "free upgrade software, free replacement of power battery modules", and give each car owner a cash care subsidy of 10,000 yuan. Volvo Chinese officials stressed that apart from the above-mentioned recall batches, other batches of models will not have such problems.
