According to the latest retail data released by the Federation of passengers, sales in the domestic narrow passenger car market in September 2022 were 1.922 million, up 21.5 percent from the same period last year and 2.8 percent from the previous year, of which 611000 were new energy passenger vehicles, up 82.9 percent from the same period last year and down 15.4 percent from the previous month.
According to the statistics of the Federation of passengers, the top three new energy vehicle companies in September 2022 are BYD, Tesla China and SAIC GM Wuling, with sales of 191200, 77600 and 40400 respectively. Among them, BYD is the only new energy vehicle company with a retail volume of more than 100000 vehicles, with a market share of 31.3%. The list shows that in August, a total of 13 car companies sold more than 10,000 new energy passenger cars, of which Cyrus once again exceeded 10,000. Except Tesla and FAW-Volkswagen, all the other brands in the list are domestic brands, of which Tesla's sales rose 48.8 per cent year-on-year to 77600, FAW-Volkswagen up 42.8 to 1.03and Cyrus up 744.6 per cent to 10100.
BYD's sales hit a new high, leading the list of car companies, with cumulative sales of 1.1529 million vehicles in the first three quarters, making it the only car company on the list that exceeded 1 million. BYD's car sales rose 144.3 per cent in September from a year earlier to 191200 vehicles, according to the data. According to the list, the top 10 new energy models are basically occupied by BYD. The sales of BYD Song (2), Qin (4), Han (5), Dolphin (7), Tang (8) and Yuan (9) were 45900, 37400, 31300, 24900, 16700 and 15100 respectively.
As a performance support, BYD announced to enter a number of overseas markets, including Japan, Germany, Thailand and so on, overseas markets will also become an important growth point of BYD sales. Tesla's retail sales in China in September were 77600, up 48.8% from a year earlier, including 46694 Model Y and 30919 Model 3, according to the Federation of passengers. According to previous reports, the renovation plan of Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory began in July, in which the second phase of the production line of Model Y was completed on July 16, while the first phase of the production line of Model 3 was completed on July 17 and August 7. According to the official website, the current Model Y rear wheel drive version is expected to be delivered in 1-4 weeks, while other models are expected to be delivered in 4-8 weeks. As we all know, the Shanghai factory bears the responsibility of domestic sales and external supply, which is mainly sold to Japan, Southeast Asia and other countries, selling mainly to the overseas market in the first two months of each quarter and supplying the domestic market in the third month, which is the main reason why Tesla China once again entered the top two. Of course, Tesla also introduced insurance relief policy in September, which also has a certain boost to Tesla's sales.
While BYD and Tesla are making efforts, the share of new car-building forces has declined. According to the Federation of Carriage data, the retail share of New Power in September was 13.5%, down 3.4% from a year earlier. Only two new power models entered the top 20 list, of which the Nezha V sold 11935 vehicles and the ideal L9 sold 10123 vehicles.
Although many netizens despise the ideal L9 with a price of up to 459800 yuan, it has been proved that as a medium and large SUV, the price advantage of the ideal L9 is still very obvious. Shen Yanan, co-founder and president of ideal Motor, said that this is also the first time that a Chinese brand model with a price of more than 400000 has been delivered in a single month for the first time. It is worth mentioning that on September 30th, ideal car launched two models: ideal L8 (359800 yuan, 399800 yuan) and ideal L7 (339800 yuan, 379800 yuan). The ideal L8, the replacement model of ideal ONE, is scheduled to start delivery in early November, while the ideal L7 will begin delivery in February 2023. In fact, the ideal L9, the ideal L8 and the ideal L7 are basically indistinguishable in appearance design. The ideal L8 can be regarded as the ideal L9 of a smaller size, while the ideal L7 and the ideal L8 are only different in seating layout and intelligent configuration. In other words, the three ideal models are the same in appearance, but the low, medium and high prices can adapt to different consumer needs.
Great Wall had the biggest decline on the list, falling 25.0 per cent to 9572 vehicles from a year earlier. As we all know, Great Wall has four passenger car brands: Harvard, Euler, Wei Brand and Tank, among which the Euler brand is the only brand that sells new energy vehicles, with Euler good Cat and Euler Ballet Cat on sale. Figures show that Euler sold 6303 good cats and only 506 ballet cats. As for Wei Brand, which has attracted a lot of market attention, its sales are even worse, with 1911 DHT-PHEV lattes, 358 Mocha DHT-PHEV and 27 Macchiato DHT-PHEV.
Thanks to Huawei's blessing, Cyrus has sold more than 10,000 yuan a month for the first time. Data show that Selis sold 10101 vehicles in August, an increase of 744.6% over the same period last year, including 5352 for M5 and 4746 for M7. On Sept. 6, at Huawei's flagship summer product launch event, Huawei consumer business CEO and smart car solution BU CEO Yu Chengdong hosted and unveiled M5 EV, the first pure electric model of the AITO brand, which launched only two models, with a standard version priced at 288600 yuan and a performance version priced at 319800 yuan.
SAIC Volkswagen is the only joint venture brand on the list, up 42.8 per cent year-on-year to 10315 vehicles. At present, the performance of Volkswagen in the electric vehicle market is obviously better than that of other German and Japanese brands. It launched five new energy models ID.4X/ID.4CROZZ, ID.6X/ID.6CROZZ and ID.3 in 2021, which has obvious advantages compared with other electric vehicle products from oil to electricity. However, as far as FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen are concerned, the performance of the former is significantly better than the latter. Data show that September ID.4 X/ID.4 CROZZ sales were 2049 and 3759, respectively, and ID.6 X/ID.6 CROZZ were 474and 2583 respectively.
The HKIFA report points out that improved supply and rising oil prices are expected to lead to a boom in China's new energy vehicle market, with rising oil prices and locked electricity prices driving strong orders for electric vehicles. Recently, the sales of new energy vehicles have been obviously promoted by policies. Local governments have issued policies to encourage consumption, and the production of mainstream car companies has continued to rise, further boosting the popularity of the new energy vehicle market in September.
