AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/30 Report--
On October 30th, according to several media reports, Tesla is expanding his factory on a large scale to increase production. Relevant reports point out that Tesla is preparing for the large-scale expansion of the Berlin super factory and has applied to Germany for 70 hectares of land. Tesla hopes to expand the production capacity by applying to expand the construction scale of the factory. at present, this expansion application is under preparation, and the expansion area is expected to be 70 hectares.
According to the concern of the automobile industry, Tesla currently has four super factories in the world, namely, the Fremont factory in California, the super factory in Shanghai, China, the Berlin factory in Germany, and the Texas factory in the United States. Among them, Tesla Berlin Super Factory, located in Berlin, Germany, is Tesla's first super factory in Europe, mainly producing Model Y and Model 3 models, with an annual output of 500000 vehicles. In November 2019, Tesla announced plans to build a new plant in Gruenheide, Germany, which was originally scheduled to start production in July 2021, but was not approved for production until March 22 this year because of environmental problems. By contrast, it took only 10 months for Tesla's Shanghai super factory to start construction and reach mass production in January 2019, while it took nearly 30 months for the Berlin super factory to start production.
On March 22nd this year, Tesla officially opened his super factory on the outskirts of Berlin, Germany, and delivered the first batch of 30 German-made Model Y models to users. In April, Tesla Berlin Super Factory began to produce white Model Y. In May, Tesla planned to acquire a piece of land near the Berlin superfactory and expand his Tesla Berlin factory in Germany to build charging stations and storage areas. Tesla already has about 300 hectares of land.
On October 2, Tesla's official account showed that Tesla's Berlin factory had a weekly production capacity of 2000 vehicles, and during the earnings call in the second quarter, Tesla said that the Berlin factory would increase its weekly production capacity to 5000 vehicles by the end of this year or early 2023. That means the plant will have a capacity of about 260000 vehicles a year. The Tesla Berlin super factory currently employs 7000 people, and it is reported that when the plant reaches full capacity, the number is expected to be close to 12000. With the emergence of new expansion projects, Tesla is expected to hire more people to supplement his productivity in Europe.
According to official data, Tesla delivered a total of 908000 new cars worldwide in the first three quarters, of which Model 3 delivery in China fell 11.4 per cent to 99000 vehicles in the first three quarters compared with the same period last year, while Model Y delivery rose 135.8 per cent to 219100 vehicles. Specific quarterly analysis, Tesla's delivery performance in the third quarter is the most eye-catching. Tesla delivered 310000 vehicles in the first quarter and 255000 vehicles in the second quarter, and 343000 vehicles in the third quarter, an increase of 42.4% over the same period last year and 30.9% month-on-month growth. Tesla said that from the third quarter of this year, Tesla began the transition to "more balanced mass production on a weekly basis for different regional markets". This has led to an increase in the number of cars still in transit at the end of the quarter, which have been ordered and will be delivered to customers upon arrival at their destination.
Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at global equity research firm, predicts that Tesla will deliver more than 500000 vehicles in the fourth quarter of this year, of which 145000 will be delivered at the Tesla Fremont plant, 246000 at the Shanghai plant, and 60, 000 at the new plants in Berlin and Texas, totaling 511000. In terms of production planning, official data show that since the upgrading of Tesla's Shanghai factory in early August, its annual production capacity has increased from 450000 vehicles to 750000 vehicles, making it the super factory with the highest capacity of Tesla.
Mr Musk said earlier that Tesla's global sales would easily grow by more than 50 per cent in 2022 compared with 2021, mainly due to the start-up of new factories and the increase in production from existing ones. However, judging from Tesla's sales performance in the first three quarters, Tesla is still a long way from the sales target of 1.5 million vehicles. According to the annual sales target of 1.5 million vehicles, Tesla has achieved 60.5% of the annual sales target of 1.5 million vehicles in 2022, meaning that Tesla needs to deliver more than 500000 new cars in the fourth quarter to achieve the remaining 39.5%. At present, however, Tesla has given up hope of achieving his full-year sales target. Tesla's chief financial officer, Zachary Kirkhorn, said on a conference call that Tesla is unlikely to achieve a 50 per cent increase in full-year delivery this year. Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, also said that Tesla may not be able to meet his sales target this year because of continuing logistics challenges.
