According to this calculation, in the remaining two months of 2022, DPCA will deliver 64898 new cars to meet its annual sales target, while judging from the previous delivery volume, DPCA may not be able to meet its sales expectations.
After entering 2022, the performance of DPCA's domestic market is gradually clear, and its products are also updated at an accelerated pace. As a representative of French cars, Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd. was established on May 18, 1992, jointly funded by Dongfeng Motor and Peugeot Citroen Group. DPCA has two major brands: Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Citroen. Although the two brands have a large number of products, so far, only Versailles C5X has performed well in the market. take the sales in September this year as an example, Dongfeng Peugeot sold 2147 Peugeot 408s, Peugeot 4008 1008 vehicles, and only a few hundred other models, even Peugeot 4008 PHEV only 8 vehicles Dongfeng Citroen's Versailles C5X sold 5809 cars, Tianyi C5 AIRCROSS 593, and the rest less than 200. there was also only one Tianyi C5 AIRCROSSPHEV.
Since its launch, Versailles C5X has become the main source of sales of DPCA. According to statistics, from January to September in 2022, the cumulative sales of Versailles C5X was 33773. Based on the total sales of 90513 DPCA cars in the previous September, Versailles C5X accounted for 37.3% of the total sales.
In terms of sales performance in the first 10 months of this year, DPCA did achieve visible growth. Not long ago, however, comments by Carlos Tavares, CEO of the Stellantis Group, added uncertainty to the future of DPCA. At the Paris Motor Show on Oct. 17, local time, Tang Weishi said that Stellantis is considering adopting a "light asset (asset-light)" model for brands such as Peugeot and Citroen in the Chinese market, and many media believe that Stellantis may stop producing cars in China altogether. In this regard, Chen Bin, general manager of DPCA, said in an interview with the media that the shareholders of Stellantis Group and Dongfeng Group are in close negotiations on a new plan to vigorously support the future development of DPCA, which will be announced after it is finalized. The domestic and foreign media's interpretation of Tang Wei's speech was wrong and suggested that "let the bullet fly for a while." Yesterday, Stellantis Group and GAC GROUP announced that shareholders of GAC Fick, GAC GROUP and Stellantis had approved a resolution to allow GAC Fick to file for bankruptcy in the court at a loss, and that DPCA would become the only Stellantis joint venture in the Chinese market once GAC Fick's bankruptcy filing was approved.
Reviewing the development of DPCA since its inception, DPCA sold more than 700000 vehicles annually for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015, and successfully joined the first-tier joint venture brand camp. Statistics show that DPCA sold 704800 cars in 2015, but has fallen directly off the altar since the sales ceiling of 705000 in 2015. From 2016 to 2020, DPCA's sales fell by 15.2%, 36.85%, 32.89%, 55.17% and 55.74% respectively, especially in 2019 and 2020 for two consecutive years, of which only more than 50, 000 cars were sold in 2020. French cars had a market share of less than 3% in China that year, and it was thought that DPCA would come to a standstill. Until the emergence of Versailles C5X saved the situation of continuous decline in sales of DPCA, Dongfeng Citroen Versailles C5X was officially launched in September 2021, with the help of this car, the annual sales of DPCA returned to 100000, and by 2022, Dongfeng Citroen Versailles C5X is still the biggest contributor to DPCA.
Dongfeng Peugeot new 408 as the first model with a new lion standard is expected to bear the main sales of Citroen together with Versailles C5X. Of course, as the new car is not long on the market, whether it can become a pillar in the future depends on the follow-up performance. According to the plan, DPCA will also launch the Dongfeng Peugeot 408X model at Guangzhou Motor Show in November. The car is based on the Peugeot EMP2 platform and is expected to be listed worldwide early next year. It will be produced by Chengdu factory in China in the future.
