On the evening of November 8, GAC Chuanqi's medium and large MPV_brand-new M8 grandmaster series was officially launched. Five new models were launched, with the price range of 269,800 yuan-342,800 yuan. This time is the brand-new replacement model M8 grandmaster version of GAC Chuanqi M8. Chuanqi M8 grandmaster series is positioned higher than master series. After the new car is launched, it will be sold in the same hall as master series and leading show series, and form a brand-new M8 product matrix.

In terms of appearance, the brand-new M8 grandmaster series adopts brand-new design language. The front face uses a vertical fan grille of large size and a large number of chrome parts decoration, which almost occupies the whole head. The middle net of the grille is a huge LOGO logo. Below it is the letter logo of "MASTER". Both sides are equipped with long and narrow headlight groups. The daytime running lights adopt LED light source, which has great visual impact as a whole. On the side of the car body, the new car still adopts the traditional MPV modeling style, and the door handle is integrated design; in terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 5212/1893/1823mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3070 mm. The positioning of medium and large MPV is consistent with that of the master series. At the rear of the car, the new car is square in shape, adopting the current popular through-type tail lamp group, and adding similar design to the headlights on both sides to form mutual echo before and after, and the exhaust part adopts concealed exhaust layout.

Interior part, the new car adopts 12.3-inch combination driving control instrument +14.6-inch super-large suspension central control, with brand-new three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, central air conditioning air outlet is set under the central control screen, the overall is very luxurious. The seating layout is a 7-seat layout in 2+2+3 order.

In terms of power, Chuanqi M8 grandmaster series offers two options: fuel version and hybrid version, among which fuel version is equipped with 2.0T engine, maximum power 252Ps, peak torque 400N·m, transmission aspect, matched with it is 8-speed automatic transmission; Hybrid version is equipped with hybrid power series composed of 2.0T engine plus motor, transmission aspect, matched with E-CVT continuously variable transmission box.

According to official data, from January to October 2022, the cumulative sales volume of GAC Chuanqi increased by 16.5% year-on-year to 298759 vehicles, among which, Chuanqi MPV family exceeded 80,000 vehicles, and Chuanqi M8 series accounted for nearly 50,000 total sales. According to the attention of the automobile industry, Chuanqi M8 is the flagship model of GAC Chuanqi layout high-end MPV market. On December 30,2017, GAC Chuanqi launched the first MPV model-Chuanqi GM8, and then the mid-term model was renamed as "Chuanqi M8". At present, Chuanqi M8 series has formed three series: leading series, master series and grandmaster series, with the price range covering 170,000 - 350,000 yuan. After the new generation M8 grandmaster series is launched, the three series will be sold in the same hall and compete with popular models such as Buick GL8 at the same level.

According to the data, the retail sales volume of MPV market in China decreased by 1.0% year-on-year to 1.079 million vehicles in 2021, but the sales performance of Chuanqi M8 is still remarkable. Chuanqi M8 ranks the third in the list of MPV retail sales volume in 2021 with the sales volume of 66153 vehicles, with a year-on-year growth of 95.2%. It is the model with the highest growth rate among the top ten in the list except Capgemini. By contrast, Wuling Hongguang, ranked first, fell 11% year-on-year to 252214 vehicles; Buick GL8, ranked second, grew 2.9% year-on-year to 161308 vehicles.

After entering 2022, with more automobile enterprises layout MPV market, the competition in this market segment becomes more and more fierce, and the MPV automobile market has also changed. Since Toyota Sana was listed, the sales volume of Chuanqi M8 has also been affected to some extent. According to the association data, the sales volume of domestic MPV market decreased by 15.1% year-on-year to 688,000 vehicles from January to September 2022. According to the breakdown model, the top three models are Wuling Hongguang (126309 vehicles), Buick GL8 (97399 vehicles) and Toyota Sana (543142 vehicles) respectively, while Chuanqi M8 fell out of the top three retail sales in the domestic MPV market, ranking fourth with sales volume of 45395 vehicles, down 9.3% year-on-year.

As a new model launched by GAC Toyota,"Sana" has attracted attention in the market since it was launched on October 30,2021. It is also reported that FAW Toyota "Grevia", a sister model of GAC Toyota Sana, may be launched on December 16. It is unclear whether the car will further swallow the market share of Chuanqi M8 after its launch. Official figures show that more than 12,000 M8 grandmasters have been pre-ordered since October 18. With the launch of the new model, whether the Trumpchi M8 can regain the luxury MPV runner-up position taken away by the race needs to wait and see the performance of the Trumpchi M8 in the future.
