Retail sales by mainstream joint venture brands in October were 700000, down 9 per cent from a year earlier and 6 per cent month-on-month, according to the Federation of passengers. In October, German brand retail market share was 19.3%, Japanese brand retail market share was 18.9%, American brand market share was 7%, and other brands, including Korean, French and European brands, had 3.7% market share in October.
As we all know, China is the largest single market for German automakers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, while China's contributions to Japanese brands such as Toyota, Honda and Nissan are also inseparable. To this end, "Automotive Industry concern" compiled a list of joint venture model sales for the first time, analyzing the performance of joint venture models in the Chinese market in the past month.
From the "October 2022 joint venture model sales list", the top 15 models basically come from German and Japanese brands. Specifically, the highest-selling model is still the Xuanyi, which sold 40504 vehicles that month, accounting for more than half of the Dongfeng Nissan brand's sales, thanks to its two-generation sales strategy. As a competitor to Xuanyi, Lang Yi sold a total of 32540 vehicles, which has always lagged behind Xuanyi, even though it officially launched a medium-term revamped model in June. In addition, Bora, a sister model of long Yi, sold 19718 vehicles, while competitive Carola and Leiling sold 22471 and 19718 respectively.
What attracts much attention is the medium-sized car market, where the competition among Camry, Accord, Passat and Teana is very fierce. According to the data, the Camry still had the highest sales, with sales of 22471 vehicles in October, higher than Accord's 17734 and Passat's 15535, making it the only medium-sized car to sell more than 20, 000. By contrast, Teana's performance is relatively inferior, of which only 12068 were sold in October, a big gap with the above models, which may have something to do with the recent introduction of medium-term changes.
It is worth mentioning that the Weilang from Buick is the only non-German-Japanese model in the top 15, selling 13474 in October, followed by the Buick brand. Buick GL8 sales of 13113 vehicles, is the highest-selling MPV model. However, Yinglang, once a hot seller, disappeared, selling only 1098 units in October, and it is rumored that the model has been discontinued, ceding the market to Weilang.
In the luxury brand market, only four models have sold more than 10,000 models, with the highest sales of the BMW 5-Series, with 12233, followed by the Mercedes-Benz GLC with 11983. In addition, Mercedes-Benz C-Class sales were 11272 and BMW X3 was 10000. In other words, Audi does not have a single model, obviously outperforming BMW and Mercedes-Benz, of which Audi Q5L has the highest sales, with a total of 9801, Audi A4L 9663 and Audi A6L 8458. In addition, as the only domestically produced medium-and large-sized SUV, the BMW X5 delivered 7805 vehicles in October and monthly sales are basically unchanged at 8000, while the newly launched BMW 3-Series has fallen to 6967.
Korean brands mainly include Hyundai and Kia, and the highest-selling model in October was the Elantra, which sold 8968 vehicles, followed by ix35, which sold 5308, while other models all sold less than 5000. The Kia brand is even more miserable. Freddy, Zhirun and K3 all have more than 1,000 models, which are 1819, 1207 and 1147 respectively, while sales of other models are very poor.
Let's take a look at the hot models in the market. as a new generation of models, their appearance and interior adopt a new design style, while lengthening on the basis of the previous generation of models. From the perspective of market performance, Lingdu L has indeed achieved some success, with cumulative sales of 55858 vehicles from May to August in 2022, of which 11125, 11358 and 10802 respectively from August to October.
Also as a replacement model, Mondeo adopts a new design and is fully extended on the basis of the previous generation of models, all equipped with 2.0T turbocharged engines, but from the performance of the market, although it is the highest-selling model under Changan Ford, the sales from 5 to 10 in 2022 are 3677, 6423, 6406, 5992, 7329 and 5304 respectively, with a monthly average of 6000 vehicles. But far less than Accord, Camry, Teana and other similar models, the promotion space is still relatively limited. However, the Fox, which has just completed the mid-term retrofit, although all four-cylinder engines have been replaced and upgraded for appearance and interior, the improvement space is also limited in terms of market performance, with monthly sales basically maintained at the level of 1500 vehicles.
The new Peugeot 408 was officially launched on August 21, upgrading the appearance, interior and power of the new car, canceling the 1.2T three-cylinder engine in cash and carrying 1.6T turbocharged engines at a price of 10.57-121700 yuan. Peugeot sold 3045 vehicles in October, making it the highest-selling model in the Peugeot brand, and is expected to reach normal monthly sales of 5000 vehicles, according to the data.
As SAIC Audi's first production model, the Audi A7L sold only 347 vehicles. In September, SAIC Audi updated the price of the Audi A7L 45TFSI model. The original guidance price range is 45.98-519900 yuan, while the new guidance price range is 41.87-489900 yuan, with a minimum reduction of 20000 yuan and a maximum reduction of 41000 yuan. The starting price is even lower than the Audi A6L. However, judging from the market performance, even the official decline has failed to stimulate consumers' desire to buy cars, with sales of 274 cars in August, 352 at the end of September and 347 in October. It seems that SAIC Audi will have to crawl for some time.
Take a brief look at the MPV market, the above Buick GL8 is still the king of the MPV market, while Toyota Sina's sales are basically stable at the level of 6000 without a price increase, with a total of 6802 vehicles sold in October, with the delivery of 3066 and 3045 respectively by Ericsson / Odyssey of the same class. As for Kia's first MPV Jiahua, it has a very low sense of presence in the market, selling 207cars in October and basically maintaining monthly sales at the 200th level.
Judging from the overall joint venture production performance, Germany and Japan still occupy most of the market share, with a total of 27 models with sales of more than 10,000 vehicles, including 13 Japanese brands and 12 German brands, and the other two models are from SAIC General Buick. There are no more than 10,000 models in American, Korean and French systems. At present, as competition in China's auto market intensifies and independent brands accelerate upward and begin to erode the market of joint venture brands, mainstream joint venture car companies such as Dongfeng Nissan and SAIC-Volkswagen will experience labor pains. Changan Ford, Beijing Hyundai, Shenlong Automobile and other marginal brands are out of place.
