AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/17 Report--

Consumer report (Consumer Reports), an authoritative organization in the United States, released the latest automobile reliability survey report in 2022. The ranking of reliability brands has changed greatly this year. Specifically, Toyota, Lexus and BMW were the three most reliable car brands in 2022, while Volkswagen, Jeep and Mercedes-Benz were at the bottom of the list, with BMW counterattacking to third place from 17th in 2021, while Mercedes-Benz ranked bottom for the first time.

It is understood that the Consumer report's analysis and rating of the reliability of new cars is based on the overall measurement of vehicle quality, including road test performance, vehicle owner satisfaction survey results, whether the vehicle is equipped with key active safety systems, and crash test results, which aims to make it easier and faster for consumers to find the best cars, SUV and trucks that meet their needs. Due to too few models or insufficient data, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Mitsubishi, Polar, Porsche and Rivian are unable to participate in the 2022 auto brand reliability rankings.

In the annual reliability report ranking of the latest Consumer report, Toyota, Lexus and BMW are the three most reliable brands, while Chinese and Japanese brands continue to dominate the list in the top 10. Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Honda, Subaru and Acura occupy six seats. Specifically, Toyota, No. 3 in 2021, overtook Lexus, which fell to No. 2, while Mazda, No. 2 in 2021, was squeezed out of the top three and replaced by BMW.

Toyota became the most reliable car brand thanks to a number of its highly rated models, with the Corolla dual engine (Corolla Hybrid) as the most reliable model in the report, while the reliability of the Corolla Cross, Prius and Corolla was also rated "well above average".

Although Consumer Reports is an authority in the United States, it does not seem to be "friendly" to local brands. In the top 10, the Lincoln brand Jedi at the bottom in 2021 fought back, becoming the fastest-growing brand in the top 10 and the only American brand in the top 10, with adventurers becoming one of the most reliable cars with a score of 82. Navigators scored 73, but pilots were rated as the most unreliable cars, with a score of only 8. In terms of other American brands, more than 90 per cent of American brands declined, with Jeep, GMC and Chevrolet all outside the 20th place. Chevrolet, in particular, fell 10 places from 2021, which may be affected by large-scale innovation of new models, with its Bolt EV and Bolt EUV specially named for battery problems and power drive failures. In addition, Tesla, the second-to-last in 2021, rose four places, ranking 19th out of 24 brands, but its reliability is still below average.

Among Korean brands, Kia ranks higher than Hyundai. Kia ranks 9th, up six places from 2021 and is the only Korean brand in the top 10, while Hyundai ranks 13th, down four places from 2021. In recent years, Hyundai's reliability ranking has declined significantly, which may be related to frequent recalls in the United States.

It is also worth noting that as the three most competitive German luxury brands for a long time, BMW has risen 10 places into the top three long dominated by Japanese brands, and Audi has also risen five places compared with 2021. Mercedes-Benz unexpectedly ranked at the bottom of the list, which is also at the bottom of the list in the brand's history. In particular, Porsche has always been the top luxury brand in the Consumer report, ranking 13th in 2021, but did not appear on the list this year because of insufficient data or products.

As a non-profit evaluation report magazine sponsored by the American Consumer Union, Consumer report publishes an annual report based on road tests, reliability data, car owner satisfaction surveys and safety performance. It buys all the cars to be tested on its own, and does not accept any promotion funds from automakers. Because of the comprehensive and meticulous evaluation of the Consumer report, many American consumers use the magazine's results as a reference to buy cars.
