AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/21 Report--
Mazda, which has not introduced new products for years, finally has good news. Recently, Changan Mazda announced in the studio that CX-50 may be unveiled at the Hainan fan festival next month. It is understood that the CX-50 was first released in November 2021, based on the front-drive horizontal platform, the car is close to the size of the CX-5 currently on sale. As a reference, the cash is on sale CX-5 price 17.58-245800 yuan, CX-50 is expected to be in a similar price range.
In terms of appearance, Mazda CX-50 adopts a brand new family design language, the larger front grille structure remains the same but the shape becomes flatter, and the black grille frame extends to both sides to connect with the headlamp group, forming the integrated design of grille and headlamp. In addition, the cooling grooves on both sides of the front bumper and the silver grille on the front lips make the new car look very strong.
On the side of the body, you can see that the body is very slender, especially the front part, and the black trim panel that extends from the front to the side skirt and then to the rear looks very rugged. Black rearview mirror, chrome-plated roof luggage rack, well-lined window frame, large-size wheels and other designs further enhance the off-road properties of the new car. In the rear part of the car, the round taillight with blackening treatment adopts the same three-dimensional design as MX-30, and the lighting effect will be very recognizable. At the same time, the spoiler extending above the rear of the new car is embedded with a long strip of high brake lights, which is combined with the horizontal lines on the rear door and the double-sided circular exhaust surrounded by the rear, which further strengthens the sports sense of the new car.
In the interior part, Mazda does not pursue the current trend of "big screen and inner roll". The central control screen is still set above the center console that is convenient for drivers to observe, and the instrument is also a combination of liquid crystal and mechanic. however, the new family style makes the car look more hard, three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, through air conditioning vents and other designs take into account both technology and texture.
In terms of power, the overseas version of Mazda CX-50 is equipped with 2.5L naturally aspirated engine and 2.5T in-line four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 187hp / 250hp respectively. The transmission system matches the six-speed manual self-integrated gearbox. It is expected that only 2.5L engine will be provided when introduced into China. Of course, in order to grasp the domestic market, we do not rule out the possibility of launching 2.5T power.
In August 2021, FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda merged into (new) Changan Mazda, but the concentration of resources did not help Mazda in terms of sales. According to the official website of Changan Mazda, the models currently on sale include Unksera, Atez, CX-30/CX-30 EV, CX-4, CX-5, CX-8 and other models, of which more than 70% come from Onksera. According to the insurance figures, Changan Mazda sold a total of 91671 vehicles in the first 10 months of 2022, down 41.53% from the same period last year, including 52471 Unksera, 14896 CX-5, 10232 CX-30, 7041 Atez, 5862 CX-4 and 1169 CX-8.
In 2017, Mazda China achieved an annual sales record of 309400 vehicles, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year, and sold 300000 units annually for the first time since Mazda started its business in the Chinese market. However, as Mazda stops producing CX-7, Mazda 6, Mazda 8 and other models in China, Mazda's sales in China continue to decline. From 2018 to 2021, Mazda's sales in China were 272322, 24492, 214574 and 183953 respectively, a decline of more than 40 per cent in five years. After entering 2022, Mazda China will no longer disclose specific sales.
One of the reasons why Mazda's sales in China remain low is that it lags far behind the speed of product updates in the market. According to the plan, Mazda will launch four models, namely CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90, between 2022 and 2023. However, how many of the strong product offensives that seem to be coming are related to the Chinese market? Even if it is introduced, is its pricing attractive enough? How competitive are they when they are released in China's fast-changing car market? These are all issues that Mazda needs to consider in the long run.
China's auto market is in the process of changing, and most brands are stepping up the transformation of electrification and intelligence. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Federation, said in an interview that Mazda wants to change the status quo, and it is an inevitable trend to join the new energy competition.
CX-30 EV, the first pure electric model of Changan Mazda, was launched on September 26, 2021. The new car is based on the fuel version of Changan Mazda CX-30. The new car has launched three models with a price range of 15.98-201800 yuan. However, compared with the domestic mainstream pure tram products with large range, high performance, super safety and other advantages, this oil-to-electricity product does not show strong competitiveness. The data show that only 315 vehicles were sold in the first 10 months of 2022, with an average monthly sales of about 30 vehicles.
Mazda models are slow to update, and old models have been difficult to meet the needs of Chinese consumers. Insufficient investment in research and development is an important factor leading to slow product updates, and the merger of North and South Mazda has failed to improve the situation. In the context of the current transformation and upgrading of the automobile industry, Changan Mazda currently has only one CX-30 EV test market, while Japanese joint ventures such as Toyota and Honda have increased investment in new energy.
According to the financial report, net sales of Mazda in fiscal year 2021 were 2.88 trillion yen, down 16% from fiscal year 2020; operating profit was 8.82 billion yen, down 79.8% from the same period last year; and net profit was a loss of 31.65 billion yen, down 43.78 billion yen from fiscal year 2020. Right now, Mazda is going through a trough in China.
