AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/29 Report--
On the afternoon of November 28th, a black Tesla Model Y in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, "suddenly accelerated" while driving, ran through the traffic lights and collided with several cars before stopping. According to the video taken at the scene, the front of the vehicle in the accident was seriously damaged, the body of the hit vehicle was damaged, the airbags were all opened, and the people in the car were lying unconscious in their seats. The rear of two other cars were crashed, one of which is suspected to be a white Volkswagen Touguan is more seriously damaged, the tail has been seriously deformed under the huge impact.
Surveillance showed that Tesla was moving in the direction of a red light, and other vehicles in the same lane were waiting for traffic. Tesla rushed out of the left turning lane quickly, crossed the intersection and then rushed forward to the next traffic light. In addition, the traffic recorder of a co-directional vehicle showed that Tesla was driving very fast before arriving at the traffic light and showed no sign of decelerating. The traffic recorder of a car at the traffic light showed that Tesla continued to glide and stop at the roadside guardrail after hitting two white cars at the intersection. The hit workshop tumbled into the green belt.
According to the witness at the scene, "I was waiting for the red light. I passed by and scared me. When I drove past, I saw that I had hit at the next traffic light. Next to me was the left turn lane. I turned around and thought it was a red light. It was obviously 'out of control'. I was driving very fast when I passed by." From the video of the accident at the scene, the car is suspected to have hit the rear of two cars after running through the traffic lights, one of which was seriously damaged. Another witness described, "when I was waiting for the red light, there was no car in the left-turn lane, otherwise I would have hit it while I was waiting for the red light. It was too fast to go straight from the left-turn lane."
On the evening of the 28th, the Traffic Police Station of Taizhou Public Security Bureau issued a police bulletin: at about 15:46 on November 28th, Xu Moujun was driving a small car at the intersection of Luqiao Avenue and Shanghai Street in Luqiao District, rear-end collided with a small car waiting for a red light, and then collided with another small car, causing serious damage to three cars, killing two people and injuring one. At present, the wounded are being treated in hospital. Xu Moujun, the driver who caused the accident, has been controlled by the public security organs. The accident is under further investigation and handling.
Tesla officials have not yet responded to the cause and specific circumstances of the accident.
This is Tesla's second more serious accident in this month. Earlier this month, a Model Y model in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, was about to pull over and suddenly swerved and accelerated slowly. At first, Model Y avoided pedestrians and vehicles on the road, but as the speed of the vehicle increased sharply, the driver lost control of Model Y and hit four people, resulting in two deaths and three injuries. According to the surveillance video on the scene, the front of the Model Y was so deformed that it could hardly be seen. The left and right side doors were opened, and the blue airbags in the cockpit could be seen.
In response to the accident, Tesla officially responded to the Hongxing News interview: background data show that: (1) the vehicle switch was pressed deeply for a long time, and at one point it was kept at 100%; (2) there was no braking action during the whole journey; (3) the driver briefly pressed the P-gear button four times during driving and quickly released it, while the brake lights were lit and extinguished quickly.
Refuting Tesla's claim one by one, the driver's family said that the owner of the car involved in the accident had acted to avoid the cyclist, it was unreasonable to step on the switch deeply at the same time, and the data showed that no brake could not be equated with no brake action in reality. Family members said that at present, China's current appraisal agencies are also unable to identify software problems with smart cars and require Tesla to provide background data.
Frequent Tesla accidents, the industry will point the finger at Tesla single pedal model. The so-called single pedal mode is through the acceleration pedal to achieve vehicle start, acceleration and deceleration and other operations, step down acceleration, release deceleration, as long as the driver is skilled, start, taxiing, braking and other operations can be accomplished by controlling the strength of the pedal. It is worth mentioning that the single pedal mode does not mean that Tesla has only one pedal, let alone the disappearance of braking function. Although under normal driving conditions, the single pedal mode is sufficient to complete most acceleration and deceleration operations, the driver still needs the brake pedal to complete in case of emergency. It should be pointed out that the single pedal mode is not unique to Tesla.
Industry insiders said that for drivers who have not yet formed traditional driving habits, the single-pedal mode has the advantages of safety and energy saving, because the single-pedal mode saves foot-moving time during braking and can brake earlier, thus shortening braking distance, reducing collision risk, and improving safety. However, the single pedal mode also has potential safety risks, that is, the switching between the traditional driving mode and the single pedal mode will disturb the driver's cognition, and it may not be as easy as imagined to change the driver's existing driving habits.
