A few days ago, we obtained a set of road test spy photos of Dongfeng Peugeot new 408X from relevant channels. It is understood that Dongfeng Peugeot new 408X is based on Peugeot EMP2 platform, will be listed in China in 2023, and will be produced by Chengdu factory in China in the future.

In terms of appearance, Peugeot 408X adopts the latest design language of Peugeot family. The interior of large size front air intake grille is decorated with dot elements. The new lion logo is placed in the center of the grille, and the "408" logo is equipped above the hood. At the same time, the narrow headlight group is integrated with the middle net, the tusk LED daytime running lights extend to the lower air intake, with the three-stage lower surround design below and black trim filling, making the front face look more radical. The difference is that the chrome trim in the grille of the Peugeot 408X is vertical rather than horizontal, and the internal structure of the headlight group is also different from that of the Peugeot 408.

On the side of the body, Peugeot 408X adopts cross-border style design, with black anti-scratch material around the body and wheel eyebrows, and height between sedan and SUV. At the rear, the large slip-back tail and hatchback tailgate look very fluid, the tail lights are also different from the new Peugeot 408, the tail lights are narrower and the ends are not bifurcated, but the internal three-way diagonal structure is consistent with the 408. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4687/1859/1478mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2787 mm.

In terms of interior decoration, Peugeot's new 408X uses a large number of linear designs to create a strong mecha style, with dual-touch screen design of the central control and full LCD instruments, the sense of technology has been effectively enhanced. In addition, the traditional stopper is replaced with the latest electronic lever design, the transition between the central control screen and the lower countertop is natural, and the necessary physical buttons are retained, thus reserving more storage space.

In terms of power, the overseas version 408 provides two different power 1.6T plug-in systems, with maximum power of 1.6T engine of 180Ps and 225Ps respectively. In addition, the new car also offers a 1.2T three-cylinder engine model with a maximum power of 132Ps and a peak torque of 230 N·m. All three models are matched with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. With reference to the Versailles C5 X, the new car is expected to be equipped with a 1.6T four-cylinder engine matched by an 8-speed manual self-contained gearbox.

In August 2022, Dongfeng Peugeot new 408 was officially launched. The new car was upgraded for appearance, interior decoration and power. Among them, the biggest change was to cancel the 1.2T three-cylinder engine carried by the old model, and the whole series was equipped with 1.6T turbocharged engine. The price was 10.57- 121,700 yuan.

In June 2022, the new generation Peugeot 408 was released overseas, which is different from Dongfeng Peugeot's new 408. The overseas version of Peugeot 408 adopts cross-border SUV coupe design, while Dongfeng Peugeot's new 408 is still a standard three-compartment car. With the discord of GAC Fick, Shenlong Automobile became the only joint venture company of Stellantis Group in China. At the 2022 Paris Motor Show, Stellantis CEO Tang Weishi's words triggered speculation about the future of DPCA: "If we push forward with the strategy we are adopting now, then we don't need to set up a factory in China." In an increasingly tense world, we don't need to create loopholes. We anticipate the possibility of geopolitical tensions, can we ensure stability in the markets?"

Many media interpret this, the so-called "light assets" means giving up domestic cars and selling only imported cars. Stellantis China responded by saying it had "no comment." Chen Bin, general manager of Shenlong Automobile, responded that shareholders of Stellantis Group and Dongfeng Group were negotiating closely on a new plan to strongly support the future development of Shenlong Company. The interpretation of Tang Weishi's speech by domestic and foreign media was wrong,"It is suggested to let bullets fly for a while".

On November 9, DPCA held a supplier communication meeting. Olivier, member of Stellantis Group Global Executive Committee, Chief Operating Officer of China Region and Vice Chairman of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd., said that Shenlong Automobile is the only manufacturing joint venture of Stellantis Group in China, and cooperation with Dongfeng has always been the top priority of Stellantis Group in China. At the same time, it said that Stellantis Group will launch a new Peugeot model in DPCA in 2023 and strive to launch more new cars in the coming years.

Compared with the past, the performance of Shenlong Automobile in 2022 is quite good. According to the sales express issued by Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd., the cumulative wholesale sales volume of Shenlong Automobile from January to October 2022 was 105013 vehicles, with a year-on-year growth of 45.94%, including 14589 vehicles sold in October, with a year-on-year growth of 45.0%.

It is understood that the sales volume of DPCA exceeded 700,000 vehicles in 2014 and 2015, but since then it has declined continuously. From 2016 to 2020, it has declined by 15.2%, 36.85%, 32.89%, 55.17% and 55.74% respectively. The sales volume has declined year-on-year for five consecutive years, and the sales volume has been cut for two consecutive years. This year, the sales target of DPCA is 150,000 vehicles and break-even. The accumulated sales volume in the first 10 months is 105,000 vehicles. There is still a lot of distance from this data. It is not easy to achieve the annual target. It is worth mentioning that in the past, Shenlong Automobile will release its monthly sales volume at the end of the month, but this month is particularly silent.
