The official picture of Dongfeng Peugeot's new medium-sized Peugeot 408X model, built on the Peugeot EMP2 platform and produced by a factory in Chengdu, China, is expected to be unveiled this year and go on sale in 2023.

The Peugeot 408X is the overseas debut of the new Peugeot 408 (code name P54). The car was first named "408" in overseas markets in June this year, while the domestic model was named "408X".

In terms of appearance, the new car is based on Peugeot's latest design language, with a borderless matrix intake grille on the front, sharp LED headlights and side lights on both sides, and a three-segment lower encirclement design and black trim filling to make the front face more radical, with the brand new Peugeot LOGO and the front 408 logo words, high recognition.

On the side of the body, the new car tends to cross-border style, with black anti-friction material around the body and wheel eyebrows, and the height is between the car and the SUV. In the rear part of the car, the huge slip-back tail and hatchback tail door look very smooth, and the taillight group is also different from the Peugeot new 408. The taillight is narrower and longer and has no bifurcations at the end, but the internal three diagonal structure is consistent with the 408.

In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4687/1859/1478mm, wheelbase is 2787mm, positioning cross-border SUV, which is obviously different from the 408 model (positioning car) which just appeared on the market not long ago.

In the interior part, the new car uses a large number of lines, the central control screen is designed for the double touch screen and retains physical buttons, and the shift area below is replaced with the latest electronic lever design, freeing up more storage space for the car. In terms of power, the overseas version 408 provides two 1.6T plug-in systems with different power, and the maximum power of 1.6T engine is 180Ps and 225Ps respectively. In addition, the new car also offers 1.2T three-cylinder engine model, maximum power 132Ps, peak torque 230Nm, all three models match the 8-speed automatic transmission.

According to the official website, Dongfeng Peugeot products currently on sale include Peugeot 408, Peugeot 508L, Peugeot 2008, Peugeot e2008, Peugeot 4008, Peugeot New 5008 and so on. Although Dongfeng Peugeot has a large number of models, sales are mediocre. In November, for example, there were 2465 Peugeot 408s, 1059 Peugeot 2008, 779Peugeot 4008 and less than 500other models, such as the Peugeot 508L.

At present, Dongfeng Peugeot is undergoing product refurbishment, of which the 408 model is the first model to adopt the new Lion Standard. It launched a total of three models on August 21, with a final price of 10.57-121700 yuan. The biggest change of the car is the cancellation of the 1.2T three-cylinder engine installed in the old model, all equipped with 1.6T turbocharged engine.

In addition to the launch of Dongfeng Peugeot's new 408, the second new lion model, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 5008, took the lead in the global debut in China on October 25th. On October 29th, the new Dongfeng Peugeot new 5008 officially opened for pre-sale, with a total of three models with a pre-sale price range of 17.77-193700 yuan. at the same time, the new 5008 Lifetime Glory limited edition limits the sale of 390 vehicles with an advance sale of 233700 yuan. the power side provides 1.6T and 1.8T engines. With the exposure of the new medium-sized Peugeot 408X model, which means that the new car will be on the market soon, Dongfeng Peugeot's product rectangle will be richer. It will take more time to verify whether the new car launch or product refurbishment can increase Dongfeng Peugeot's sales.
