On December 16, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued a notice that Jiangsu Yueda Kia Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products. It is decided that from now on, a total of 130079 smart cars produced between July 29, 2014 and May 31, 2018 will be recalled.

The reason for the recall is that the vehicles within the scope of this recall may have a short circuit inside the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) of the braking system, which in extreme cases will lead to a fire in the engine compartment and safety risks. In view of the above defective models, Jiangsu Yueda Kia Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the large-capacity fuse in the recalled vehicle HECE with a lower-capacity fuse free of charge. If insurance fuse is caused by the internal short circuit of the HECU, Jiangsu Yueda Kia Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the HECU for the vehicle free of charge regardless of vehicle service life and mileage.

According to the concern of the automobile industry, Kia Sportage is a veteran of the domestic joint venture compact SUV, and the second and third generation models have been introduced into the same domestic sales, named "Lion run" and "Zhi run" respectively. In 2007, Dongfeng Yueda Kia officially introduced the second generation Sportage into China, becoming its first SUV model, and named "Lion run", with a price of 15.98-238800 yuan.

In 2010, Dongfeng Yueda Kia introduced the third-generation Sportage into domestic production and named it "Zhirun", with a price range of 16.48-249800 yuan. At that time, "Zhi run" and "Lion run" were sold in the same house, and the positioning of Zhi run was higher than that of Lion run, which consolidated the sinking market, while Zhi ran grabbed the mainstream market and jointly expanded the brand's power in the SUV market, and both models had good market performance in the market. According to the narrow passenger car wholesale sales data of the Federation of passengers, from 2014 to 2018, Zhirun sold 96472 vehicles, 81522 vehicles, 78176 vehicles, 31626 vehicles and 89053 vehicles respectively, with a cumulative sales volume of 376849 vehicles. According to this statistics, the recall of 130079 vehicles accounted for about 35 per cent of the total sales.

In April 2018, the new generation of Zhirun went public with a price range of 11.99-139900 yuan. In April 2021, Dongfeng Yueda Kia released a new brand logo and launched three new cars in the domestic market, including the Zhirun Ace model, which was officially launched in July 2021. The car decoration is a medium-term revamped model of Kia Zhirun, which is sold only in the Chinese market, offering 1.5T turbocharging and 2.0T naturally aspirated powertrain at a price of 13.98-157800 yuan. According to the number of new car compulsory insurance purchases, Yueda Kia sold a total of 78462 vehicles from January to October 2022, down 41.13% from the same period last year. In terms of specific models, Zhirun's cumulative sales fell 53.22% year-on-year to 16507 vehicles, making it the highest-selling model under Yueda Kia.

Judging from the scope of the recall, the recall covers only some of the smart models produced between July 29, 2014 and May 31, 2018, while those produced in the rest of the month will not be affected.
