On January 9, Geely released annual sales figures for 2022, with production and sales exceeding 1 million for six consecutive years. According to the data, Geely sold 1.433 million vehicles in 2022, up 8 per cent from the same period last year, but still failed to meet the previous annual sales target of 1.65 million vehicles, with a completion rate of only 86.7 per cent. By contrast, Geely also failed to meet its annual sales target of 1.53 million vehicles in 2021, although it failed to meet the set sales target for two consecutive years, but this did not affect Geely's judgment on car sales in the new year. Geely said in its announcement that Geely's annual sales target for 2023 was 1.65 million vehicles, an increase of 15.4 percent year-on-year compared with 1.43 million in 2022.
In terms of brand segments, Geely brand sales fell 21 per cent in December from a year earlier to 101000 vehicles, of which Geometry brand sales rose 94 per cent year-on-year to 18700 vehicles; year-on-year cumulative Geely brand sales rose 2 per cent to 1.125 million vehicles in 2022, including 170 per cent year-on-year growth in geometry brand sales to 149000 vehicles. The Lectra brand fell 15 per cent to 22000 vehicles in December from a year earlier, and its cumulative sales for the whole year fell 18 per cent to 180000 vehicles, while polar krypton brand sales rose 199 per cent to 11000 vehicles in December from a year earlier, with a cumulative sales of 72000 vehicles, an increase of 1098 per cent. Geely Intelligent Transformer Ruilan car brand sold 11000 vehicles in December, with a cumulative sales of 56000 vehicles for the whole year.
In terms of new energy vehicles, Geely sold 38000 pure electric vehicles in December, up 182% from the same period last year, while the cumulative sales for the whole year were 262000, up 328% from the same period last year. In addition, the data show that Geely's overseas market continues to rise, with sales rising 72% to 198000 vehicles in 2022 compared with the same period last year, becoming the new engine of Geely's sales growth.
From the annual sales data analysis, Geely car new energy brand growth is obvious, but the overall sales base is not high. The polar krypton brand sold 72000 vehicles in the whole year, an increase of 1098% over the same period last year, and achieved its annual sales target of 70, 000 vehicles on schedule. At present, the polar krypton brand has a total of ZEEKR 001 and ZEEKR 009 models, of which ZEEKR 009 is a new model launched in November 2022. In other words, the sales of the polar krypton brand in 2022 all come from ZEEKR 001.
Lectra is the only Geely brand whose annual sales declined compared with the same period last year, with annual sales of 180000 vehicles, down 18% from the same period last year. The auto industry is concerned that the decline may be related to the epidemic and chip shortage in the first half of 2022. In addition to the layout of new cars, the new energy market is also the focus of Geely's efforts. Throughout 2022, Geometry, Polar Krypton and Ruilan all have obvious sales growth, which may also be the strength for Geely to set an annual sales target of 1.65 million cars. of course, it will take more time and the market to answer how much driving effect the release of more new models will bring to Geely in 2022. It should be noted that Geely has failed to achieve the set sales target for two years in a row because of the epidemic and chip shortage.
