Affected by the supply of spare parts and the epidemic, sales of many brands of Volkswagen Group showed a downward trend in 2022. Among them, Volkswagen passenger car brand sales for the whole year were 4.5633 million, down 6.8% from the same period last year; Audi brand sales for the whole year were 1.6142 million, down 3.9% from the same period last year, making it the brand under Volkswagen Group with the smallest decline. Skoda is still the third largest brand of Volkswagen Group, with annual sales of 731300 vehicles, but its year-on-year decline of 16.8% is much higher than that of other brands. Porsche and Bentley / Lamborghini both grew year-on-year in 2022, with the former rising 2.6 per cent to 309900 and the latter 5.8 per cent to 24400.

In 2022, Volkswagen Group's performance in many markets around the world is not optimistic. In the European market, Volkswagen's overall delivery volume fell 10.4 per cent year-on-year to 3.1532 million vehicles, with Western Europe being the main delivery market, where it delivered 2.7113 million new cars in 2022, down 5.2 per cent from a year earlier. As the largest market in South America, the group's sales in Brazil were 33.74 vehicles, down 10.4% from a year earlier.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Volkswagen delivered a total of 3.514 million vehicles, down 2.7 per cent from a year earlier. Volkswagen, the region's largest single market, delivered 3.1845 million new cars in China in 2022, down 3.6% from a year earlier, and overall sales were slightly lower than in the same period in 2021. However, China was the biggest contributor to the group's global pure electric vehicle sales growth, with Volkswagen delivering 155700 pure electric vehicles in China in 2022, up 68.2 per cent from a year earlier.

China is the Volkswagen Group's largest single market in the world, with a global market share of 38%. This means that for every 100 Volkswagen models sold in the world, 38 of them are from the Chinese market.

As the profit cow of Volkswagen Group, the Chinese market is also the largest single market for Porsche and Audi. According to the data, Porsche sold 309900 vehicles worldwide in 2022, an increase of 2.6% over the same period last year, of which 93300 new cars were delivered in China, down 2.5% from the same period last year, making it the world's largest single market for eight consecutive years, with a market share of 30.1%. Electrification will be the focus of Volkswagen Group's future development. Data show that Volkswagen Group delivered a total of 572100 pure electric vehicles in 2022, an increase of 26.3% over the same period last year, accounting for 6.9% of its total delivery. Volkswagen remains the leader in Europe's domestic pure electric vehicle market, delivering 352000 new vehicles throughout the year, ranking fourth in the US pure electric vehicle market and the strongest growth in China. "We are the best in the world of internal combustion engines, but in the new world we call NEW AUTO, what awaits us is a war we have never experienced before," said former Volkswagen Group CEO Deiss. It is true that Volkswagen has performed relatively well in the electric vehicle market among all the international car companies, but more efforts are still needed to surpass Tesla to become the leader in the global electric vehicle market.
