On February 22, 2021, Chery announced that it would implement a "lifetime warranty for all models' engines" from now on, covering the best-selling models such as Ruihu 8 series, Ruihu 7 series, Ruihu 5x series, Ruihu 3x series, Erize series and all subsequent models listed under the Chery brand. In addition, users who have purchased the above models from January 1, 2020 to February 21, 2021 can also be upgraded to engine lifetime warranty free of charge.

Of course, Chery Automobile launched the "whole vehicle lifetime warranty" policy, but also has certain requirements. First of all, there is time. Users who need to buy Chery cars from January 1, 2023 can enjoy the "all-car lifetime warranty" policy, and if they buy new cars before 2023, they can only enjoy the previous warranty policy. The second is the scope, the rights and interests of non-operating vehicles for the first owner, second-hand car owners no longer enjoy the scope of rights and interests, which is also the consensus of the industry. In the past 25 years, Chery has experienced struggles, wandering and rising. In January 1997, Chery Automobile was officially established, headquartered in Wuhu City, Anhui Province. Two years later, Chery's first model, Fengyun, was officially off the line, but Fengyun was almost stillborn because it did not get the production qualification. In order to build a car, Chery found FAW, but FAW did not take a fancy to Chery, and finally Chery obtained a "birth permit" from SAIC in the form of "selling its body". In 2001, Chery changed its name to SAIC Chery, when Chery's first model, Chery Fengyun, was put into mass production. Later, with the rapid rise of models such as the Chery QQ and the son of the East, Volkswagen and GM successively filed commercial lawsuits against Chery over the car supply chain and technology use rights. In the end, SAIC chose GM over Chery. In 2004, SAIC Chery changed its name to Chery Automobile.

Since then, SAIC and Chery have chosen two completely different development routes. SAIC firmly maintains the development status of joint venture brands, while Chery hopes to break the monopoly of overseas brands on automotive core technology through technological innovation. In 2005, Chery launched ACTECO, the first series of engine brands with independent intellectual property rights, and became the first car company in China to master engine technology through independent innovation. In 2007, the millionth car in Chery was officially off the line. Of course, the later development of Chery was not plain sailing, more and more joint venture brands began to sink the market, and the rapid rise of independent brands such as Geely, Great Wall, Chang'an and BYD also brought great pressure on Chery's development.

Looking back now, Chery's "difficult birth at the start" and "marriage defeat" are not only the bitterness of the growth of independent brands, but also the portrayal of the hardships of the development of China's automobile industry. In 2020, Chery's annual retail sales of 515500 vehicles, although down 4.1% from the same period last year, but surpassed the top 15 of Beijing Hyundai Shun Chinese passenger car manufacturers. In 2022, Chery's annual retail sales of 717700 vehicles, an increase of 19.8% over the same period last year, is second only to BYD among domestic passenger car manufacturers.

In the era of fuel cars, Chery deserves credit for breaking down Western barriers through the accumulation of technology, but in the era of new energy vehicles, Chery undoubtedly needs more proof. In terms of model design, core three-power system, brand marketing and offline channel laying, Chery will face a more brutal competition than in the era of fuel cars. In 2022, Chery New Energy vehicles sold 221200 vehicles in the whole year, an increase of 126.5 percent over the same period last year, including 96500 Chery QQ ice cream and 94300 Chery eQ ice cream.
